General
Time/Place
They meet every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 5:30 to 6:00 in Claudia's room. They can walk into Kishi's house without ringing the doorbell.
Members
Kristy, Mary Anne, Stacey, Claudia, and Dawn are thirteen and in eaight grade now at Stoneybrook Middle School.
Mallory and Jessi are eleven and in sixth grade, also at SMS. Kristy, Mary Anne, Stacey and Claudia are original BSC members.
Then Dawn join the club, followed by Logan and Shannon. Then Stacey moves back to NYC. Mal and Jessi join the BSC originally to
replace Stacey and are made officially members. Stacey rejoins club when she moves back to Stoneybrook. Logan questions whether
he can be an associate member and still do sports; quits then rejoins. Club members became 6 when Dawn leaves for six-month stay
in California. Wendy Loesser is made a BSC member, then quit, too. Shannon became alternate officer. Then Mal dropped out because
she had mono and is named a honorary member, but she rejoins the club when mono was gone. Then Dawn came back and returns to club.
And after a big fight, Stacey quits and fired by Kristy at the same time, leaving another opening in the club. Stacey is let back
into club after asking to rejoin. But she was put on probation. Then Dawn has to move back to California which means the BSC need
a new member. That's when Anna and Abby are asked to join. But Anna turned them down because of time constraints, but Abby says yes
and become alternate officer. Dawn became a honorary member.
Kristy got the idea for the BSC on the first Tuesday afternoon of seventh grade. Wait I'll cont this next time.
Officers and Duties
President
Kristy
She makes sure meetings begin exactly on time and are conducted in businesslike fashion. She also comes up with new ideas to promote
club, attract clients, i.e., summer play group, Mother's day event, Kid-Kits. She always asks if there is any club business or new business
to begin the meeting. She wears a visor, and a pencil over one ear and sits in director's chair during meetings. She also gives a Look if a
member is late for a meeting.
Vice President
Claudia
No real duties but holds this title because club meetings take place in her room. She's also the only member who has her own telephone and own private line. She sometimes takes calls from parents during non-meeting times. But since she has no official duty, she has an unofficial one. Her unofficial duty is to give out junk food to members as well as sugar-free snacks for Stacey.
Secretary
Mary Anne
She keeps the record up-to-date and in order. She also has never made a baby-sitting scheduling mistake.
Tresurer
Stacey, then Dawn, then Stacey, then Dawn, then Stacey
She collects dues from every member each Monday. She keeps them in a manila envelope (a dollar from each). Grumbling from members on dues day is a tradition. She also records expenditures and earnings in back of member book. The money is to pay for Claudia's phone bills, gas money for Charlie to bring Kristy and Abby to meetings, club parties, Kid-Kit supplies, etc. Dawn is a good treasurer in Stacey's absence.
Alternate Officer
Dawn, then Shannon, then Dawn, then Shannon, then Dawn, then Shannon, then Abby
No real responsibilities, takes over job of member who is absent from a meeting. She must be familiar with all duties. She also answers telephone a lot.
Junior Officers
Jessi and Mallory
They take a lot of the afternoon jobs because they are not allowed to sit at night unless they're taking care of their own siblings.
Associate Officer
Shannon and Logan
Reliable sitters who don't go to meetings regularly but can take a job if none of the members are available.
Honorary Officer
Mallory (book #69-73), Dawn (book #88 on)
Non-practicing member of the BSC.
Club Possessions
Club Record Book
This contains clients' names, addresses, phone numbers, rates paid, allergies, and other special information about children, and all schedules of baby-sitting jobs. It also has all of the sitters' individual schedules. Mary Anne is in charge of entire record book except for Stacey's treasury section. Mary Anne has not made one error in book yet.
Club Notebook
This is more like a diary. All members must write the description of every job and read each other's entries about clients and handling of sticky situations. Kristy and Mal likes to write in it. Most of them doesn't like to write in it but enjoy reading it.
Mystery Notebook
A record of the BSC's detective work, reporting strange occurences, and keeping a list of suspects and clues. Mal compiles it from past notebook entries.
Fliers
They first got the word out by distributing fliers. They still pass them out, once in a while if they feel like they need extra business. The fliers tell about the club and tell parents when and where to call. BSC plans to make fliers that will inform clients of BSC rules.
BSC Rules
Meeting Procedures/Rules
This is kinda long so if you want the summary, click here.
Kristy sits in director's chair with pencil over on ear and green visor on head. Mary Anne, Dawn, Stacey, and Claudia usually sits the on bed while Mal and Jessi sits on the floor. Claudia also has desk and chair and Stacey sometimes sits there. Claudia also has a digital clock and a princess phone.
Whoever is closest to the phone answers, takes the information needed (including number of children sat for), hangs up then Mary Anne checks the record book and assigns job and calls client back. Claudia also has an answering machine. It is also, not a club policy to let clients request particular sitters.
Meetings must begin with club business, not personal business. Claud provides junk food, and sugar free snacks for Stacey and Dawn. Every job that come along must be offered to all the members of the club before someone takes it. They sometimes hold emergency meetings, i.e., called to discuss the mystery of the old Hennessey house. Two unofficial meetings were held for the first time to discuss volunteer projects, one in Dawn and Mary Anne's barn, the other in Jessi's room.
