Geek Fest

Geek Fest is precisely what it sounds like. My husband and his friends will disassemble their PCs, load them into their cars, and all head together to one person's house to participate in an event which has come to be known as Geek Fest, an evening of multi-player computer games, LAN cords, pepperoni pizza and Dr. Pepper. It occasionally involves a break long enough to watch an animé movie or the première of a new South Park cartoon, only to descend again upon the computers for the remainder of the evening.

I have to admit, this can be fun. I don't like many of the games they play together, since I have never really gotten into the first-person shooters (i.e., the Quake series, Sin, Half Life), though it can be funny to watch over six people's shoulders what is happening on their screens, and hear the room of people talking, laughing and shouting at each other as though they were actually participating in the action: "Look Out!" "He's on top of that building!" "Ha ha, I've been waiting for you to come around that corner..." "Help, sniper!" "Where did you find THAT gun?" This has actually coined some of our very best catch phrases.

For those who were there, remember these?
"What ARE you?"
"Tickle tickle!"
"Run, skippy, run!" and later, the now-infamous "Run, skipopy run!"

When they play the strategy games, like Warcraft II, StarCraft, or Total Annihilation, I have occasionally enjoyed getting in on the action a little bit. Mostly though, I will stake out a spot on the couch with my book and get out of the way. Needless to say, I am the one who coined the term Geek Fest.

Return here soon for actual pictures of this event- you may not truly believe until you have seen! And if you are a geek with a network card and LAN port, feel free to contact us for info on joining in.
