Allow me try to tell you a little about myself... I may get a little long-winded here... but bear with me, nuh?
Let's see... how would I describe myself?
Quiet, reserved, friendly (in a reserved way, of course), loyal, dedicated,
hard-working, earnest, genuine... blowing my own
horn? Maybe... but, I'm trying to
paint a picture here...
I love my work... I love programming, I love database administration, I love the environment I'm working in right now (we have over 5 different projects to support; all on SCO UNIX and written in Informix-4GL and PowerBuilder, mostly...).
I am married, but separated... no
children,
no
pets.
I have a serious interest in psychology and human nature and nature itself.
In fact, I'm thinking of
doing the B.Sc. in Psychology at the
University of the West Indies
... seriously thinking about it.
Yeh... I know... you ask, "What does that have to do with Information
Technology?" Well, it actually does; in a way... you can give your
clients the best service possible, if you study and understand them and
their needs - connect with them if you will.
Of course, that's not the main reason why I'm thinking of doing it... I am
fascinated by the human creature - it's strengths, weaknesses, quirks...
I was brought up as a Methodist, but lost my way somewhere.
But, that's another story for another day. (check out my
ponderings
for more on that...) I became interested in martial arts.
A little over a year ago, I started with
Taekwondo;
Sidekicks
- a member of the Songham Taekwondo Association.
I actually progressed to 3rd level yellow belt before I found a
Tai Chi Chuan class -which is where my interest lay in beginning -
I just couldn't find a class. Now that I've found the class, I'm
enjoying it immensely - and I am a different person. Where I used to be
impatient and intolerant, I'm now much more mindful of the shortcomings
of my fellow human beings. Where I was stressed out, I've learnt how to
relax and "return to self". Where I was oblivious to nature
and it's power and strength, I now see and appreciate the wonders of the
physical world. I've become more in tune with my inner self and the world
around me. Of course, I have a ways to go... but I don't worry about the
destination anymore. Now, I am only trying to enjoy the journey (Wow! I
sound like my teacher!)
I learnt to play the piano
as a child. These days, I don't touch the piano anymore.
Frustration with my stiff and out-of-practice fingers have dissuaded me.
But, one day, I'll return to the keyboard
?
- nah! a different sort of keyboard.
I
write a little poetry.
But, it's not your typical poetry.
It's just a way I use to express myself and my emotions without long
epistles (like this one). My poems tend to be what I like to term
"brain dumps" because, that's really what they are.
It's usually something I'm feeling at the moment and the best way to
relieve the pressure of the thoughts, is to put them down on paper in some
sort of bastardized verse. I usually can't recite them - or even remember
them after I dump them on paper, but I usually put them in places I can go
back to and read later. I rarely (if ever) go back to them and refine them.
Some of the better ones have gone thru some refinement - and some of those
I will post here - a little at a time.
