The Spitfire

Reginald Mitchell, 1895-1937, was born in Stoke-Upon-Trent, Staffordshire, England. He as a famous British aircraft designer, developed the Spitfire, one of the best-known fighters in World War II, it was built in Hamble, Southampton. It is one of the few pre-war types to remain in first-line service until the end of the war and beyond. Mitchell based his design on his seaplane, the Supermarine S6, that had set speed records and won the Schneider Trophy in 1931.
