update 8/18/99: Added Buck Rogers: Countdown to DDaym, Civilization, Death Sword, Donkey Kong, F-15, MUDS, Sango Fighter, Top Gun. Something screwed up, ended up in B&W. Abandonware Rediscovered page added.
More recent ones: X-COM, Jagged Alliance, Beneath a Steel Sky, Fallout, Guilty, Simcity 2000, Panzer General, Allied General, Panzer General 2, Wing Commander 3, and yet to try Warlords 3, Chaos Gate, Fallout 2, Jagged 2, Heroes of Might and Magic 3...
These are some of the games that we've actually played back in the
80s. Many of the shots look much better than i remembered them,
agree? Cos back then we only had CGA (4-color) and the pics depicted
are mostly EGA (16-color). So they actually look fabulous and
refreshingly good even today, cos we never did see them in full glory.
Some of the games, because of the way they were programmed, are now
too fast for the current speed demon computers, so u need Moslow
or Bremze to slow them down to what they
used to be. For example in Marble Madness, time runs out b4 u can
play 3 seconds real time. In Commando, enemies and bullets fly around
so fast, unless u have lightning reflexes or incredible luck....
Others such as Alleycat purrs along like its the good old 8086/88
regardless if u have Pentium III. All in the programming style... no
good or bad, just the way it is.
Those games that I have discovered only recently will be in the Abandonware
Rediscovered page. For example Nuclear War....Coming...
Alley Cat (IBM, 1984) |
You are a scavenging cat, and your mission is simple: steal the dogs'
food, catch fish and mice, all while avoiding hazards like dogs,
brooms, spiders, electricity, and debris thrown from windows. Such an
innovative game. |
Bad Street Brawler aka Bob'n Rumble (Beam/Mindscape, 1985/ 87?) |
Hey Sis, remember this? U picked it up in HK together with Dark Castle, Maniac Mansion. All good choices. I chose Eagle's Nest, Last Ninja, and Death Sword. This one's a winner. |
Blades of Steel (Konami, 1990) |
The one that got me into Ice Hockey. |
Buck Rogers: Countdown To Doomsday (SSI / TSR, 1990) |
One of the few that i actually manage to complete. |
California Games (Epyx, 1988) |
Carrier Command (Realtime Games, 1988) |
Can't remember very much even though i spent a fair amt of time on this one. see... fading memories that's why this page exists. Objective is to claim islands... while engaging the enemy using planes and sea-launched vehicles. |
Civilization (Microprose, 198?) |
Commando (Data East/ Capcom, 1986) |
Why can I still readily hum the tune of this game? Impossible to get it out of my head. Classic. |
The Cycles (Accolade, 1990) |
yeah, i'm pretty decent at this one, but its actually not that difficult. |
Dark Castle (Silicon Beach Software, 1986/ Three-Sixty Pacific, 1987) |
Death Sword (Palace Software 1988, IBM version Designer Software) |
Destroyer (Epyx, 1986) |
Anyone has this game, let me know. My diskette has long since
disintegrated and apparently nobody else has it either. Remember manning the AA guns, dropping depth charges, and bombarding blobs mesquerading as 'islands.' Hey its 1986... |
Donkey Kong (Nintendo, 1981, 1983 / Atari, 1983) |
F-15 Strike Eagle (Microprose, 1986?) |
Into The Eagle's Nest (...) |
I chose this one and turned out to be the most decent among the 3. Imagine Wolfenstein 3-D in two dimensions and this is pretty much it. |
Lakers vs Celtics and the NBA Playoffs (Electronic Arts, 1989) |
1989...Detroit Pistons came into prominence... Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Bill Laimbeer, John Salley, Rick Mahorn, Chuck Daly coach. I remember playing as Seattle a lot. |
Marble Madness (Atari, 1984/ Electronic Arts, 1986) |
This is one addictive marble... Guide it through to the destination along narrow trecherous uneven terrain with obstacles. Careful of the black marbles who try to bump u off. |
M.U.D.S. (Rainbow Arts, 1990) |
MUDS is a spoof of American Football. The ball is actually a live fictitious creature, so adding complexity. The competitors are also fiction, with many species to choose from. |
Nobunaga's Ambition 2 (Koei, 1990) |
A birthday gift in 1992. And still on the hard drive. Amazing. Always preferred this one to the more popular Romance 3 series. Thanks I appreciate it and still do. |
PC Man (Orion Software, 1982) |
Rush'n Attack aka Green Beret (Konami, 198??) |
This is hard! Never can get very far with this one. Infiltration w/o ranged weapons (basic weapon is a Rambo-style bayonet) means mati mighty fast. Insane but fun. |
Sango Fighter (Panda Software, 1992?) |
Chinese version of Street Fighter |
Silent Service (Microprose, 1985) |
Saboteur 2 aka Sabotage (Durell, 1987) |
...at least I remembered it as Sabotage when i got it. Something lost in translation? I can remember the tune to the title screen for this one too. |
Sokoban (Ascii/ Spectrum Holobyte 1984) |
I remember mom chose this one. The game that ended up with so many variations and a lot more levels. Sokoban means warehouse worker or something... |
Top Gun (Ocean, 1986) |
The game begins with the Star Spangled banner. |
