He never told me that he
loved me.
That kind of thing was never said.
He never took me fishing, but...
At night he tucked me into bed.
With a Bible in his left hand, and a bottle in his right,
He told me stories of angels every night.
He'd say, "Son. they're all around us.
Just look and you will see.
They'll be there when you need 'em.
They were always there for me.
And Now I'm dyin', dyin', dyin',
And I see 'em all the time, they
Wrap themselves around me like a fur coat
On a cold, cold winter's night."
Daddy worked two jobs for
sixteen years
Just tryin' to make ends meet.
He'd say, "Son, we may not have much, but
At least we have a roof, and food to eat."
He was never "in the picture," as one might
say,
But he knew that I loved him,
And at night I heard him pray,
And he'd say, "Lord,
I hope you hear me.
I know my time is near.
Send your angels down to help me,
Cuz death is what I fear,
And I know I'm dyin', dyin', dyin',
And I need 'em more than ever.
Can they show me to the light so I can
Leave this stormy weather behind tonight?"
He'd say, "Don't let
your heart grow colder.
Just do what you know is right.
There'll be an angel on your shoulder...
Tonight.
Tonight."
Well, Daddy's Angels, they
came callin',
And he crossed over late last year,
But sometimes when I'm all alone,
I hear him whisper in my ear...
Sayin', "Son, We're
all around you.
Just look and you will see.
I'll be there when you need me.
You were always there for me.
And now I'm dyin', dyin', dyin',
And I see him all the time, he
Wrap himself around me like a fur coat
On a cold, cold winter's night.
On a cold, cold winter's night.
On a cold, cold winter's night.
