Topic: URL Redirection

Comments:
The free web page hosting sites are great. Wouldn't it be even better if I could have my own url with a shorter extension. You can by visiting http://welcome.to. http://web.com These are very useful sites ,that redirect the long URL's.

Topic: Creating bookmarks

Comments:
Simply the way There is a simple way to create bookmarks and named anchors - simply select the text you want to transform into a bookmark, then drag it to wherever you want the link generated. Then, when released, select Link Here from the pop-up menu. The trick being y u don't left click you right click other choices on the menu are 'move here' 'copy here' and cancel. Topic: KISSfp FrontPage FTP Add-On

Comments:
I developped a FrontPage Add-On to facilitate using FTP to free Hosts such as GeoCities and other hosts without MS Server Extensions installed.

KISSfp facilitates FTP uploading of FrontPage-based Web sites to Hosts without MS Server Extensions. It saves space on your webhost by selecting just the files really required for FTP. It reduces download time for your visitors with HTML Compression specifically tailored to MS FrontPage.

Great also for publishing Webs on multimedia CD-ROMs and using FrontPage with Web hosts such as AOL or CompuServe or free hosting solutions such as GeoCities or Tripod, because they usually don't have MS Server Extensions installed.

More features include insertion of usability enhancing icons after e-mail and external links, current URL, broken links check & detection, mixed-case warnings & fix and other valuable information. (These features work with any site and are independent of FrontPage.)

KISSfp is available with a convenient Windows GUI and as Win32 Console Application, both tested under Windows 95 and NT. The GUI Tool integrates into FrontPage's menu as Add-On! KISSfp comes with an extensive Help and installation program. This software is Shareware, see register.txt and license.txt

The site http://www.vorburger.ch/kissfp has complete documenation, examples and a Web Style Guide, my Ideas for more Web Authoring Tools, FrontPage Tips and some Recommended Links. Link to the site!

Topic: Hover Buttons in Frames

Comments:

MicroSoft hid the Target Frame Property for Hover Buttons well.

To use hover buttons in Frames, there are two steps:

1) Make sure your frames are named. Open your frame-set page in the FrontPage Editor. Then in each sub-frame, click your right mouse button and open the Frame Properties dialog. Each sub-frame should have a unique Name. This name is the name you use for a Target link, when you want to load a page into the frame.

2) Open the Hover Button Properties dialog (right mouse click on the Hover Button). Following the Link To field, is a browse button. Push the Browse Button, this opens the HyperLink dialog. At the bottom of the Hyperlink dialog there is a Target Frame field, click on the button following the Target Frame Field (3 dots and a pencil). This opens the Target Frame dialog. In the Target Frame dialog either select your desired frame from the Common Targets list, or enter the Name of your sub-frame in the Target Setting field.

Topic: Moving files to your main directory

Comments:
I, too, have FrontPage '98 and with having no subdirectories. When you're in FrontPage in the file section, all you have to do is move all the files in subdirectories into the main directory and upload it like that. FrontPage will make all the necessary changes later on. *Smile* Just a little tip you may or may not know.

Topic: The four most common problems after uploading your pages

Comments:

A) There is a checkbox on EZ-Upload, that when checked, changes all your page extensions from .htm to .html, if you use EZ-Upload either un-check this box when uploading, or rename your pages to .html (if done in the frontpage explorer your links may be automatically fixed).

B) GeoCities is case sensative, windows is not. Capitalization of file names makes a difference at GeoCities. FileName.htm is not the same as filename.htm, I would recommend always using lower case (no capitals) when naming your file.

C) The files (pages and images) must be uploaded into the same subdirectories as they are in your computer. For example, create an images subdirectory at GeoCities, and then upload all the .gif and .jpg files from the fpweb/images/ subdirectory on your hard drive into the images subdirectory at GeoCities.

D) When linking to files within your site (directory), always use just the root file name (eg. filename.htm), remove any qualification if FrontPage inserted it. To link to an image in the images subdirectory, just use the subdirectory and image file name (eg. images/filename.gif), there should be no leading / before your subdirectory name
