The Candies Man
Some good news from The Sunday Star-Ledger (in New Jersey),
November 10, 1996, on page 3 of the Style section:
The "Seventh on Sixth" shows happened around Halloween time, so
maybe that s why there were Candie s all over the place.
Not Snickers or Jolly Ranchers, but Candie s shoes, the high,
wooden-heeled "slide" mules with bright-colored straps that were a
staple fashion statement in the late 70s.
No fewer than 11 fashion shows at New York s fashion week have
shown clothes paired with these vintage heels.
"I don t know what to say the fashion gods have smile on us," says Neil
Cole, the bewildered but happy CEO Of Candie`s Inc. "I never thought
we d be selling slides again. But it`s in the shows, editors are requesting
them for photo shoots I guess it`s just a style that reminds people of
good old times."
Candies slide mules were first introduced in 1978. When Olivia Newton
John sported them in the movie "Grease," they became THE shoe of the
disco age.
This year, in addition to showing them on the runway, Anna Sui, Nicole
Miller, Betsey Johnson and Vivienne Tam designed their own take on the
classic Candie s with beads, glitter, clear plastic heels and other
outrageous details.
Both classic ($35) and designer($130) Candies will be in the stores in
spring.
There is a color photo of the designer Candie's in the article. They're a
real eye-sore! The classics are my absolute favorites! I absolutely *love*
to see attractive women with nice legs and pretty, well cared for feet
wearing the classics, and the sound of them delicately and sensually
spanking their soles as they walk in them. I'm tired of all these of Klingon
shoes, Farmer Jones Clod-Hoppers, and Combat Boots! The
comeback of Classic Candie's is some of the best news I've hear all
year.
