This is my daughter, Patricia, born on April 5, 1983. Patti was named in honor of my father (Patrick). I made a promise to him once that if I ever had a son, I would name it after him since none of his grandchildren carried on his name. When Pat was born, I knew I probably would not have any other children. Therefore, my father had to settle for a "Patricia".
Patti is young woman now, who graduated from high school in 2001. She had been on the honor roll throughout her school years. Patti was inducted into the National Junior Honor Society in her eighth grade year and was a member in ninth grade. As a member, she got involved with doing community service which she enjoys very much.
Patti was a member of a YMCA Gymnastics Team from age 6 to 12. As member of this team, she received many awards and ribbons, including 3 medals from State Championship Competitions. Patti lost her love for gymnastics due to lack of leadership at the YMCA and dissatisfaction with the way the sport is run. Her interest in sports changed from gymnastics to basketball.
After much encouragement from her sister, Angela, and her father and I, Patti signed up to join a youth instructional basketball team with a local community league. This was her first experience at organized basketball. She did extremely well and was one of the best defensive players, if not the best, in the league that year. Her team went on to place first in the league and won the championship title. It was also the first time the 1st place team had ever, in the history of the league, won the championship title for the season.
Pat enjoys watching college and professional basketball, gymnastics, ice skating, and boxing on TV. Her favorite professional basketball players are, of course, graduates of Villanova: Kerry Kittles and Alvin Williams. Patti enjoys listening to her music; her favorite singer was R. Kelly until he was arrested, and her favorite group at one time was Boyz II Men. And, believe it or not, she also loves Tony Bennett and has purchased his most recent CD! Patti sorely misses the departed TuPac and gets very upset that Biggie's death drew much more attention than his. Her favorite actor is Al Pacino, and she has been purchasing all movies she can find starring him, of which include three of the Godfather Movies, Scarface, and The Devil's Advocate. Her other favorite movies include Grease, Grease II, and West Side Story. Her reading interests have centered around Shakespeare's works (1998).
During high school, Patti looked forward to joining the work force and could not wait to get her driver's license. She is very good with children and babysat often during her junior high/high school years. Her goal is to become a nurse someday. Patti is a Villanova fan, and her dream was to attend Villanova University following high school, in the footsteps of her uncle and grandfather. Unfortunately, due to finances, we were not able to help her with that goal. Instead, Patti attended a local community college for one semester in the spring of 2002 leaning toward a degree in nursing. But Patti mainly majors in just "having fun". She has held part-time jobs as cashier, waitress, and sales since graduating from high school.
Patti has a great sense of humor and usually has a pleasant disposition. Although you don't want to get her mad - she has a really bad temper! And you must make sure Patti has enough to eat because she gets pretty crabby if she is hungry!
Pat attended Amateur Athletic Union team's practices with her sister in 1998. She also attended the 1998 Keystone State Games Girls Basketball Camp where she knocked her big sister out of the free throw competition and was the winner of her group. She made it to the semi-finals in the three-point competition at the camp. Patti says she learned a lot at camp. She also played for our local community basketball team the summer of 1998. She played on her high school's summer basketball league and had planned to try out for the high school team in 10th grade but broke her foot just before try-outs. She later changed her mind about playing for school, stating it would be "too much" for her to handle.
Up until the 10th grade in high school, Patti had no interest in dating, stating "I have my whole life ahead of me. Why would I want to tie myself down." However, that quickly changed, and Patti became a social butterfly. Patti started dating Rashid in the summer of 2001, and they have been together since. Their first child is expected to arrive in October, 2002. They've been told it is a boy and plan to name him "Anthony". We are excitedly awaiting his arrival!
Patti has been a joy to raise! We are very proud of her and are looking forward to becoming grandparents!
*UPDATE*... Pat and Rashid have become parents! Anthony arrived 9/17/02 a month ahead of schedule.
Pat and Rashid are no longer "together" and have not been since October, 2004. Pat has since met another young man, Pete. He has been very good to Pat and Anthony and has become part of the family. We wish them all the best!
