The Bunny And The Snail

by Rosie Nelson

Once upon a time, there lived a snail. This snail was not like the ones you see today; the snail was once the fastest creature alive.

The fastest snail ever was named Minako. She worked harder than anyone so that she could be the fastest. Once she became the fastest, however, she began to brag.

“Minako-chan,” her friends warned her, “if you don't stop bragging, the gods will punish you!” Minako paid no attention whatsoever, dismissing them as jealous.

“Ami-chan!” Minako said to her best friend, Ami. “I bet I can even beat O-Tsuki-sama no Usagi in a race!” You see, O-Tsuki-sama no Usagiis the god of the moon, and he is better known as the Bunny on the Moon.

O-Tsuki-sama no Usagi heard Minako bragging and became very angry. He called for her, and he proposed a race. If she won, she could become a goddess. If she lost, however, she would be destined to slowly roam the land and sea, with her home on her back, for all eternity.

Minako agreed, sure she would win. When the race came, though, she felt the weight of all her bragging dragging her down. Usagi-sama won the race, and Minako and her descendants slowly wander about the land and sea, carrying their homes about their backs, for all eternity.

I wrote this for my World History class..nifty, ne? :) We had to write a myth, and I got sick of Greek and Roman gods (hehe) so I used O-Tsuki-sama no Usagi instead of Apollo or someone..
