Lucy's first internet attempt

This is how we got Lucy. Back in 1988, on Christmas day a momma Black Lab showed up in the back yard at our farm. She had a pretty good sized pup following her. The pup was just pestering the hell out of the mamma Lab. Nipping at momma's tail, running circles around her and trying to get momma to play. The momma Lab just took it all in and helped herself to a bowl of dog food, setting on the back porch. They both stayed all day, visiting with us and our farm mutts. We gave them snacks and played with the pup. They both left that afternoon, the pup still nipping and bumping mom. The next morning they showed up again. Both had a little food from the bowl and then the momma Lab started to trot off back towards the woods. The pup noticed mom leaving and took off after her. But when the pup got close, momma turned and bit at the pup. The momma Lab chased the pup back to our house and would not let it follow her back. The little black fur ball of a pup just sat there, confused and wimpering. We did not realize it that the visit the day before had been a scouting mission for momma Lab. It was time for the pup to leave the nest, and she had been looking for a good home for the puppy. I said to my wife "That Lab looks like it ought to be named Lucy." That is how we came to own this stepdog. But she does not know that she is a "d o g." She thinks she is just a short hairy human. She has her own water bed, television and even owns the rear passengers seat in our Red Dodge 4x4 Supercab truck. If you don't think that that is her seat - well you just try and sit in it! She will lean on you and just stare REAL hard at you till you swap seat positions. Here is a picture of Lucy if she was a white Lab.

SAD UPDATE

Lucy passed away the day after Christmas, December 26, 2003. She was a dear and trusted friend. More than that she was family. For 15 years she greated us at the door EVERY DAY. You could just watch that tail wag when we walked in and you knew that you had come home to the best friend you would ever have. SHe slept with us every night. When she got to old to jump up in bed we lifted her up. In the last year Lucy got sick. The vet could not save her. She received the best care and will be missed more than anyone can know. Nothing will ever replace her.
