To My Dad
A remembrance on this my 26th birthday...

copyright April 26, 2002
Words have failed me at every turn, but I try
Descriptions eternally beyond my reach, hard to capture
The meaning just beneath the surface
Why you came, then left the lives of those who loved you
Who were you?
A force, a presence always there
The rock of our foundation, holding us up
Quiet strength to lean on, to support
Your smile, how it rivaled even the light of the sun
Easily shared with those who loved you and those you loved
Warming, penetrating, enriching the lives around you
Etching who you were, forever in memory
Bright brown eyes, shining in mischievousness
Grinning without a smile, framed for flirting
A blink to please, a wink to tease
Glittering like a treasure, cherished forever
You will forever be deep within the hearts of so many
The way you were and always shall be
Strong, Quiet, “Smiley”
My father for all eternity
