Today I had my 39th week appointment with MaryAnn, the most awsomest midwife ever.  This is only the third time I've seen her since I am assigned to a different midwife.  I only get to see MaryAnn when my regular midwife isn't there.   MaryAnn is caring, sweet and always takes the time to answer all my questions.  Best of all, she has email and checks it almost as much as I do.  Big plus in my book!

At today's appointment, I was going to ask how big the baby is.  The last time I saw MaryAnn on June 14, she said that I wasn't going to have a big baby.  That got me real excited for a second, then I asked, well, what's not a big baby?  "Oh, it's just about a little over 7 pounds right now."  Again, that was June 14.  The week before that, the baby was only about 6 pounds!   I still have another 2 weeks to go and I pray I do not have a 9 pounder in there...  If we end up having a girl (we don't know the sex of the baby) and it's 9 pounds, we will have no choice but to name her Bertha.  Well, I am now just realizing that I got so excited at the appointment that I forgot to ask how big the baby is.

MaryAnn told me last time that I will be getting an internal exam at this appointment.  I told her that I started the very mild and regular contractions Thursday night.  She smiled and gave me the exam.  The exam wasn't fun, but the good news came.  She reported that I'm 1 centimeter dilated, head is at -2 station and 60% effaced.  She could feel the baby's head.

Whoo Hoo!  One centimeter down, nine more to go!

While she's "down there", she also striped my membranes.  This is supposed to help induce labor. She warned me that I will start having more contractions and that things should move a little quicker.  She gave me her work schedule at the hospital in the next couple of weeks and her home phone number in case I go into labor when she's not there.  IS SHE NOT AN ANGEL?

Hold on Bertha, Mommy still needs to make one last trip to IKEA and Costco okay?
