Hi! I'm CarolTX, given name Carolyn, but my friends in channel call me Carol (among other things LOL). I was born and raised in Detroit, MI but in 1967 I got wanderlust and moved to Texas where I have resided ever since. Therefore, (imho) 30+ years here makes me an official Texan! I live in a small town, 20 miles south of Houston. I have a beautiful daughter, her name is Kelly, and one grandchild, Michelle. I began my computer chat experience (as did quite a few of us) on AOL back in 1990. I found it to be a pretty good experience in the beginning but eventually got tired of all the "snerts" and a lot of the cold "feelings" that come from going into a new experience. (you know, the new kid on the block" thing). Well, one day I got that wanderlust again and had heard a lot of talk about this "new" chat program called IRC! So, I went looking! In the beginning (which was around 1994) I went to all the different Nets....Undernet, Efnet, etc. but didn't find what I was looking for. Well, one day I happened to discover DalNet....and that is where it all got started (LOL). I opened the channels list and viewed all the different channels that I could visit, searched for a channel that looked like it may have something in the topic that I would be interested in and POOF....found the 50Something Channel! I entered (at my own risk, as they say *s*) and boy what a SURPRISE!!! Everyone greeted me as if they had known me all my life! I found warmth, sincerity and an overwhelming abundance of help learning this new thing they called IRC, and above all I found FRIENDS! The folks of 50Something took me under their wings and made me feel so warm and welcome that I stayed, and stayed, and stayed. I consider myself at "Home" on this channel and most of the members are my "Family". One other thing I would like tell you about my 50Something Family, they are the most caring group that you would ever want to meet! Here's an example: Two years ago, I had a Heart Attack and was not online for quite some time due to the fact that I was in the hospital and when I came home I just didn't have the stamina to sit and chat. Well, after not being online for over 24 hours, the phone calls started coming into my roommate! "Where is CarolTX" were the questions she kept hearing! After filling everyone in, the calls continued with everyone asking for an update on my condition! I have NEVER received so many cards in my life and I cried whenever my friend brought them to the Hospital! I knew then what a wonderful family I had joined!
So, let me welcome you to our Wonderful, Whacky, World of 50Something and I hope you enjoy us as much as we enjoy you!
