Super Sites For Teachers

A-Z Teacher Stuff -- You'll be amazed at the teacher "stuff" packed into this site! The Thematic Unit and Blue Book indexes are terrific as are the lists of Lesson Plan sites and New Teacher sites.

Awesome Library -- Aptly named, this resource for K-12 teachers organizes a Web exploration with 12,000 carefully reviewed resources. Teachers may choose sites classified by subject, support area or resources.

Blue Web'n -- This library of Blue ribbon learning sites on the Web is a searchable database of outstanding links categorized by subject, audience and type (i.e., lessons, activities, projects, resources, references and tools).

Classroom Connect -- You'll find the latest Web links and discussions related to using the Internet in K-12 classrooms on this site, which offers a free newsletter delivered via monthly e-mail.

CyberScout -- McGraw-Hill's School Division offers this Web research service which locates Web sites to match your curriculum.

Ed's Oasis -- Here's a site that provides links to quality student-centered instructional Web sites and examples of how teachers have used them in their classrooms.

ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center) -- Best known for its archive of thousands of teacher-created lesson plans, this federally funded information clearinghouse from the National Library of Education contains information in 16 subject areas for every grade level.

Fun Brain -- Grammar Gorillas, Spellaroo and Fresh Baked Fractions are just a part of the fun at this learning site for kids. Teachers will enjoy the Quiz Lab, where you can create an original online quiz for your class. When students take the quiz -- either at home or at school -- the results are e-mailed to you.

I'm A Teacher -- Weekly Reader's site for teachers offers grade-specific resources to complement their weekly publication, including links, activities and printable pages. Even if you don't use Weekly Reader in your classroom, you'll find this site useful.

Kathy Schrock's Guide for Educators -- Updated daily, this comprehensive site created especially for teachers lists a variety of valuable resources in many categories.

Lesson Stop -- A free weekly e-mail newsletter is offered by this site which archives 1000 lesson plans, activities and teacher guides for K-12.

PBS Teacher Source -- This quality television resource posts current listings of PBS programs and an archive of information in arts and literature, social studies, math and science.

Puzzlemaker -- Create your own grade-specific mazes, crosswords, word searches, number blocks, math squares and more at this useful site. A practical resource!

Teachers Helping Teachers -- Created by teachers for teachers, this collection of teaching tips for the new as well as the experienced teachers is updated weekly.

Teacher Pathfinder -- You'll love the variety of lesson plans and projects which serve as resources for new ideas for your classroom.

The Education Place -- Visit the Teacher Center on this site sponsored by Houghton Mifflin and you'll find resources for teaching math, reading/language arts and social studies.

The Idea Box -- Kindergarten and first-grade teachers will appreciate this site of early childhood and activity resources.

The Kindergarten Connection -- This just-for-kindergarten resource addresses the special needs of the kindergarten curriculum with lesson plans, teacher tips for classroom management, bulletin board ideas and more.

School Express -- If you're into worksheets, you'll marvel at the breadth of this site packed with downloadable files for games, lesson plans and worksheets for all ages and categories (e.g., ages 4-6: language arts, phonics, social studies, reading, geography; 1-3: math, science, sentences and story writing). You won't go away empty-handed!

ZoomSchool -- Teachers can pick up a lot of resources and information on this site from Enchanted Learning software company.

Literature Sites

Beverly Cleary -- This "unofficial" home page is a good source of information for Cleary fans, including facts about the author and in-depth exploration of the featured book each month.

Carol Hurst's Children's Literature Site -- In this extensive collection of information about kids' books, featured books are treated to reviews, discussion points, follow-up activities, resources, related books and purchase information. There is an excellent professional resources section on the site and you may have Carol Hurst's free quarterly newsletter sent directly to you by e-mail.

Children's Book Council -- This online guide from the Children's Book Council lists pages on their site which may be helpful or interesting to teachers and librarians. It includes good links to Web sites of children's book authors and illustrators, a "Meet The Author/Illustrator" feature, reading activities for kids, a monthly showcase of books for planning themes or special exhibits, and contact information for National Children's Book Week.

Eric Carle -- Check out the Caterpillar Exchange for ideas submitted by teachers and librarians for enriching the experience of Eric Carle's many books.

International Reading Association -- This site contains publications, standards, research, advocacy, conference information and international projects in the area of reading.

Jan Brett -- Hosted by the popular Hedgie, this Web wonder from award-winning author/illustrator Jan Brett is pure joy. You can read about Jan Brett, send her e-mail, print masks of the animal characters in many of her books, download and print coloring pages and bookmarks, enter Hedgie's holiday contests and send an e-mail postcard featuring Brett's artwork.

Joan Holub -- Author/illustrator Joan Holub's Web site features nine of her books with activities, excerpts and printable pages. Among other things, you can print pen pal stationery from her book Pen Pals and e-mail a postcard to Mom with animated artwork from Holub's book I Love You, Mom. Don't miss the section of activities for the 100th day of school.

Magic School Bus Fun Place -- The wheels on this bus go around and around to bring you current information about the Magic School Bus TV schedule. live stage shows, the book club and all those great books.

Seussville -- The fun on this Web site begins with the Cat and dances through fun, games, contests and activities for kids -- all based on the books of Dr. Seuss.

StoryArts Online -- Lesson plans and activities for storytelling in the classroom are the focus of this site, which also features an online story library of many folktales and 26 fables from Aesop.

The Children's Literature Web Guide -- Created and maintained by a librarian, this comprehensive guide to children's literature on the Web features many links to authors, publishers, and a lot of literature-based resources for teachers.

Social Studies Sites

ePALS Classroom Exchange -- Enhance your social studies curriculum by giving kids a chance to correspond with "keypal" students around the world through this online database of classrooms.

National Council of Social Studies -- This site contains standards, information, research, publications, conference information and on-line discussion groups in the area of social studies education.

National Geographic -- This has to be a favorite site on every teacher's list!

UNICEF -- Educational resources on this site include curriculum guides which can be accessed as full-color PDF files.

Math Sites

Flashcards for Kids -- program remedial activities for your students through this site, which allows you to choose the math concept to be practiced as well as the level of difficulty.

National Council of Teachers of Mathematics -- This site contains standards information, research, publications, math challenge problems and conference information in the area of mathematics education.

The Explorer -- This site is a collection of lesson plans, lab activities and instructional software for K-12 math and science education. Browse the math curriculum on this site for a compendium of downloadable/printable pages for all levels, including classroom games and ideas for using popular books in math lessons.

Science Sites

Bill Nye's (The Science Guy) Labs Online -- Kids love Bill Nye, the Science Guy. Among other things, you'll find great lessons for the classroom in his science lab (i.e., physical, planetary and life science).

NASA -- NASA is serious about education. Check out any one of the site for a wealth of information about space travel, astronomy, ongoing NASA missions, how to obtain NASA photographs and scientific images. Kids will enjoy the StarChild site, a learning center for young astronomers offered at two levels.

National Science Teachers' Association -- This site contains standards, information, research, publications, conferences and initiatives in the area of science education.

Sea World -- Grade-specific teacher guides are available on this site which offers a great searchable database of animal information as well as many educational resources and links.

The National Zoo -- If you can't visit the National Zoo, this virtual tour is the next best thing. Simply by clicking on a map, you can visit any of the zoo's buildings with an audio tour. The web cams offer a variety of must-see zoo events such as watching the birth of a rhino or an elephant having his bath.

ZooNet -- This site provides listings of links to zoos around the world, a selection of top picks for zoo sites, animal links, animal pictures and endangered species at zoos.

Arts & Crafts

Amazing Picture Machine -- Need a picture for a lesson or a bulletin board? You'll find it here. Also turn to lesson ideas to see ways in which teachers have incorporated The Amazing Picture Machine into their lesson plans.

Crayola -- Teachers looking for art techniques and ideas for lesson plans will find a friend in this site.

American Educational Research Association -- This web site contains information related to improving the educational process by encouraging scholarly inquiry related to education and by promoting the dissemination and practical application of research results.

National Association of Education for Young Children -- This site contains information about initiatives, conferences, research, publications and other items of interest in the field of early childhood education.

National Research Center on the Gifted and Talented -- This site contains excerpts of articles from their quarterly newsletter, upcoming conferences and seminars as well as programs for gifted and talented students.
