The Longest Kiss: Chapter 2 By: Archica Gundam Wing doesn't belong to me.
Hilde awoke the next morning a little late. She looked at her clock. She realized she had forgotten to set the alarm. All the events of last night had caused her to not even think of anything other than Duo. She got up from her bed and stumbled out of her room. She felt like she was still asleep. She glanced into the kitchen and saw Duo sitting at the table and a brown paper bag beside him. “Did you go to the store?” she asked drowsily, walking into the kitchen. “Yeah. We were out of some stuff.” he said a bit nervously. “Really? I just went yesterday. What did you get?” She reached for the bag but Duo knocked her hand away roughly. She drew her hand back and looked at him with wide eyes. “I’m sorry, Hilde. It’s just some regular groceries. That’s all.” Hilde thought about what he had done for a second, and his recent behavior. He was being so nice. Too nice. Maybe if she could get him angry, he would stop acting like this. She reached out and busted him across the face. Duo’s eyes widened and he looked up at her in shock. She hadn’t hit him since they began living together. “What was that for?!” he screamed. Hilde couldn’t help but smile. That was her Duo. Maybe he was going though a phase. “You hit my hand, so I hit your face. Just a warning for you to never do it again.” she said with a fake-frown and walked out of the kitchen, trying her best not to giggle. But still, she thought, what was in that bag? She turned around and peeped back into the kitchen just as Duo was pulling out a package of raw meat. He ripped it open, much like he had done the night before and devoured it within seconds. Hilde gasped and put her hand over her mouth. Her first instinct was to go and take the meat away from Duo, to scream at him for doing that, but her heart told her not to. It told her to deal with this situation gently, and to get to the bottom of this anyway she could before confronting Duo about it any more. She walked on into the bathroom to take a shower. She noticed that the toilet seat was down. That was strange. Duo always used the bathroom first thing in the morning, and was known for not putting the seat down. She cautiously opened the lid and there laid a huge clump of blood. It looked like it was mixed with vomit. Had Duo thrown up all this blood? She flushed the toilet, but the blood wouldn’t go down. Now it made sense. He had tried to flush it, so he didn’t just leave it there on purpose. There was something terribly wrong here, and Duo was trying to hide it. She went ahead and took her shower while mentally debating on whether or not to mention the blood to Duo. If she didn’t mention it at all, he may become suspicious. If she did mention it, he may become defensive and even more cautious about leaving little clues like that around. She finally decided to casually bring it up and act as if she was afraid he was coming down with a virus. She stepped out of the bathroom in her bathrobe and into the kitchen. Duo wasn’t there. She walked over and knocked on his door. No answer. She opened it up and saw Duo sitting on the edge of his bed, face in his hands. “Duo, what’s wrong?” she asked, no longer caring about her “investigation”. She was only concerned about him. “Hilde, uh... I’m fine. I just felt a little faint.” “Are you coming down with something?” “Yeah, I think so.” he replied, standing up. “I’m gonna go back to the store and get me some medicine or something, ok?” “Sure.” “You want anything?” he asked, pulling on his jacket. Yeah, she thought to herself, I want you to get better. “Nah, I’m gonna find me something around here to eat.” Duo smiled vaguely and left. Now was Hilde’s chance. She locked the door behind him and bolted for his room. She rummaged through his things, hoping to find something that would give her a clue as to what happened to him. She suddenly looked over at the bed. It was just as neat as it had been yesterday morning. Duo hadn’t slept last night at all. What did he do all night? She heard a thumping sound coming from his closet and she walked slowly to it. She put her hand on the door knob and twisted carefully. She opened the door quickly and stepped back as a small body tumbled out onto the floor at her feet.
