Graphic Design

Graphic Design is a duel enrollment class offered at Bassett High School. It is a two credit class taught by Patrice Newnam, the art teacher and technology director at Bassett. This class deals in the most part with computers. We are graded on the computer animated artwork that we turn in. All of the software that we use in Macintosh oriented. Also, in this class, we learn to use a video camera and learn how to film properly. When we finish filming we use an editing board to edit the tape until a finished product can be turned in. Equipment that we use

1) Power Macintosh - Computers that we run all the software from.

2) Laser Scanner - This is what we use to scan pictures on to the computer's hard drive.

3) Zip Drive & Disk - This is what we use to save all of our work on the computer.

4) Video Camera - We use this to record an event or movie.

5) Editing Board - This is what we use to edit the video after we're finished taping.

6) Printer - This is where we print all of our work so we can turn it in.

Software that we use

1) Adobe Photoshop 4.0 - This program allows you to scan in a picture or several pictures and save them in your computer. With the applications that this program offers you can take those picture that you scanned in the computer and change them to get an original piece of art work. Here are a couple of examples of what I've done in Photoshop.

2) Adobe Illustrator 6.0 - This is another program that we use in this class that allows use to take our pictures and change them and perfect them until we have a piece of artwork that we are satisfied with.

3) Avid Cinema - This Program allows us to edit movies using the computer. This program is very handy because it has effects that you can add to the movie and you can cut the movie and move clips around until it is the way that you wont it.

4) Adobe Premier - This is another program that we use to edit tapes using the computer. This program is a lot like Avid Cinema but it allows you to do some things that Avid Cinema doesn't.

5) Type styler - This piece of software allows us to take a word or just letters and change the font, the font size, the style of the font, and the shadows and underlines. This program is good to create a personalized style and font to show your creative ability.

6) Adobe PageMill - This is the program that I used to make these web pages. It helps you to make pages for the internet. It gives you so many functions that are easier to use with this program then without. Linking pages together is easier also. All you have to do is drag an icon from one page to another. Without this program I would be stuck because I'm not a computer whiz like some people.

7) ClarisWorks - This is a word processing program that we use to type text and it has features for slide shows, charts, and graphs.

In conclusion, with the aid if this class I've learned many skills that I know will help me when I try to find a career later in my life. I've learned how to use a Mac and run all kinds of software from it, and I've learned to use equipment that will be useful to me later in my life. This class is difficult for someone like me who doesn't have a whole lot of time to take and spend on my work for this class. Even so, I'm glad that took this class because it will benefit me more than to take an easy class that I wont learn anything in.
