150th Anniversary Celebration
The congregation, founded in 1848, celebrated the beginning of its 150th
year on June 1, 1997 with a special anniversary service. This celebration
marked the beginning of a full year year of activities planned to highlight
the past struggles and rich history of the congregation. The guest
preacher for the day was Dr. Roger Pittelko, President of the English
District, who spent the weekend with the congregation. (Click

A reception followed the anniversary service during which the congregation
presented Dr. Pittelko with a special gift commissioned by St. John's leaders.
Dr. Stephen Howarth, President made the presentation. Realizing that
this event was one of the last events for Dr. Pittelko before leaving office,
the congregation wanted to present him with something special to enjoy
in his retirement and serve as a reminder of our German heritage.
Below is a picture of Dr. Howarth presenting Dr. Pittelko with a case of
specially brewed "Pittelko Red Robe Ale"
(or "Bishops Brew") brewed by members of St. John.
