Christianity
came to Armenia in the first century AD when St. Thaddeus and St.
Bartholomew, two apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, came to preach the
faith. In 301, under the spiritual guidance of St. Gregory the
Illuminator, King Tiridates III declared Christianity as Armenia’s state
religion. The year is dedicated to the celebration of the 17th Centenary
of this great event - the Proclamation of Christianity in Armenia.
Armenians
pride themselves to be the first nation to adopt Christianity as the
official religion of their state. Throughout the centuries the
Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Church has been the eternal flame of this
faithful nation, the flame which has guided this nation through dark and
treacherous roads and ensured their survival to this date.
The
idea of construction of St. Harutyun Church in Sari Tagh district of
Yerevan, capital of Armenia came to Gevorg Kechayan 9 years ago, when he
saw Christ in a vision who indicated to him where to build His Church.
Next morning when he went to that place he find out a spring which was not
there before.
With
the idea of construction of the Church he came to his friends Khachik
Harutyunyan, Rima Hayrapetyan and others. They decided to join there efforts in
this spiritual work.
