4084AD, the mankind stupidly went into an inter-system crisis and lost all of their planets, except Zion. They must now save their only planet against Victims.

A creature with two wings, a Victim, is being chased by five robots. Under the leadership of the pilot of the white robot, the five corner the Victim and the blue robot destroys it by a weapon teleported to him.

A small spaceship is heading towards Zion and its beauty impresses one of the passengers, Candidate 88, Zero En'na. He is really cheerful but, to his coach's surprise, he has been sick ever since the ship went into space. He has got a phobia of non-gravity. But he is determined to be a pilot. Now that he has been admitted to the pilot school, GOA [Goddess Operator Academy], because of his rare blood type EO and positive result for EX, he think it will be easy for him to become a pilot. His optimism seems to have offended his fellow candidate, Hiead.

Zero follows Hiead to the observatory, where a better view of Zion can be enjoyed. Suddenly a huge explosion occurs near Zion and its trail shakes the ship badly. Zero falls and brings Hiead down with him.

A third candidate, Clay Cliff Fortran, who stayed in the cabin, suspects the explosion was "Judgment of Goddess" and the coach confirms it.

In the observatory, Hiead bluntly expresses his disdain of Zero, who angrily reacts by taking off Hiead's hood with an incredible speed, which somewhat stuns Hiead. Then Cray comes into the observatory and sees Hiead's trousers are undone. It wasn't only the hood that Zero touched.

The ship is now approaching to a giant space station, GOA. All the candidates of a pilot from various colonies come to the school to be trained. While Zero gets excited, the coach is in a totally different mood. He has escorted a number of the boys to GOA and he knows only five of them will be selected.

Zero looks forward to his two years at GOA. His dream is to become a pilot and fight along with the white Goddess. Cray knows a little more than Zero about the white Ingrid [the robots are called Ingrid]. It is the best machines of the five with the best pilot of the five but no one knows its true name or who made it. Its name is Ernn Laties and operated by the only and youngest woman pilot. Then he introduces himself. Cray is from Colony K-03 and Candidate 89. Zero replies cheerfully, "I'm Zero En'na. Call me Zero!"

Another spaceship docks with GOA. The five Ingrids and their pilots are on board. While four pilots are talking about their annual visit to GOA, a young girl with long green hair comes out of Ernn Laties. She is the leader of the pilots, Teela Zain Elmes. She immediately tells them to go to the meeting room but one of the pilot, Gareas, wants to eat first. Teela completely ignores him and walks off and another pilot, Rioroute Vilgyna, follows her. Two quieter pilots, Ernest Cuore and Hikura Yu, seem to have their own feelings about their old school but their very quietness irritates Gareas.

His anger is interrupted by his partner and repairer, Leena Fujimura. She tells him their Ingrid, Eeva Leena, has got some trouble. He agrees; the Ingrid was rather impatient in today's battle. Leena will try to fix it and wants Gar to come back later. As the three pilot now walks off to the meeting room, Leena is confused. No problem has been reported for the other Ingrids and Eeva Leena herself has never had such a problem before.

In a dark room, the head of GOA welcomes Dr Claw Revaud. He tells that the five pilot from GOA have been doing their job very well. Yet he wants their replacements ready soon. The battle against Victims are dangerous and use of EX is tough on their body. When the current pilots gets worn out, replacement will be needed immediately. No gap in the defence is allowed to protect their last planet.

Zero is in the hygienic room where a member of staff is determined to cut his untidy hair and change his dirty clothes. The coach, Azuma Hijikata, seems uninterested in Zero's fate and leaves the room for the entrance ceremony.

Zero is finally released from the hygienic room but soon finds himself lost in the school. He strays into the hangar of the Ingrids, where Leena is still struggling to fix errors in her Ingrid. Zero looks for the white Ingrid he adores without a success. Instead, when he passes in front of Eeva Leena, her eyes light up and her cockpit opens up. Zero gets joyously excited and walks towards her.

A message on the screen tells Leena that a pilot is now near her Ingrid. Thinking it must be Gar, she moves her working platform towards the cockpit. To her great surprise, she finds a young boy and wants to know who he is. Zero approaches her, trying to explain the situation, but this alarms her and she accidentally pushes him into the cockpit.

As he goes through the liquid-like wall of the cockpit, Zero hears a voice of a young girl, "Find me." Soon the door of the cockpit closes and "connection" of the pilot starts. Zero finds the scanning very unpleasant but holds out. Leena, the repairer, is half panicked. The Ingrids are very highly tuned to their pilot and connecting someone else to them may result in his death. She activates the emergency termination of the system but the system doesn't accept it. Besides the scan is going without an error. Leena calls Gar for help.

In the cockpit, Zero has lost his consciousness because of the pain. He wakes up to the voice of the same voice, "Find me." This time he also sees her image; a young naked girl with extremely long hair. "Watch me. I'm divided into many pieces within you." The girl gently hugs him and the connection is complete.
