The five Goddesses, Ingrids, were created to save Zion against Victims. Each of them is served by a pair of a specially trained pilot and repairer. The candidates for Goddess starts their career at GOA.
Gareas comes to the hangar, where Leena is frantically trying to save Zero. She tells his a candidate has accidentally entered the cockpit of Eeva Leena.
In the cockpit, Zero seems a young naked girl with very long hair. He somehow knows she is the one who called him. The girl gently hugs him.
Leena the Repairer is surprised to see the connection process is complete. The synchronisation between the pilot and Goddess reaches the blue zone and is still increasing. Neither Leena or Gareas understands what is going on. But Leena at least knows that, if the pilot "dives so deep", he may not be able come back ever again.
Zero regains her consciousness. He is floating in space and finds his old space colony before him. Then a gigantic Victim passes near him to attack it. In the colony, people are rushing into the shelter in panic. A woman is desperately looking for her son, Rei [Zero's real name is Rei, "zero" in Japanese], who has not reached the shelter. Unfortunately the entrance of the shelter is closed before he can get into. The cruel barrier separates the mother from her son. Those who are left outside of the shelter, including Rei, are sure of their death. They know their colony is too remote for Goddesses to come to rescue. Yet Rei sees five lights in the sky, the Goddesses and the white one impresses him a lot as it comes close to the colony. The Goddesses destroy the Victim without much difficulty but the shock wave breaks a part of the wall of the colony and people outside of the shelter get sucked into the vacuum space.
This is all Zero's memory when he was a small child but he cannot stop the flux of his memory.
Rei is sucked into space. Then a white sphere surrounds the unconscious boy like a bubble and the white Goddess gently holds it with her both hands. Zero is almost in panic, "What do I see such a thing!?"
In his office, the School Master explains about Zero to Dr Revaud. Although the new candidate clears all the requirement for a candidate, his EX is yet to be identified. This is a rare case but surprisingly the Candidate 87, Hiead, is exactly the same. The measurements of ability of the boys are very close to those of "her" [probably Teela] but their "mind impulse" is totally opposite to each other.
Hiead and Clay are waiting for Zero. Although Clay is rather worried, Hiead shows little emotion. Then Azuma comes in. Clay tells him that Zero is probably lost his way. So the coach accesses to the search system of GOA to find where Zero is. But, to his surprise, the system cannot locate Candidate 88 anywhere in GOA despite that the "marking" on the wrist of the candidate is designed so that they can be located wherever they are. Azuma suddenly realises something and leaves the room. He knows the loss of the signal from the marker means he is either in space or...
Zero is still in his vision. He now sees a blue planet in space and repeats the question, "Why do I see such a thing?" The voice of the young girl answers, "So you can see what I see." Then a number of lights [probably explosions] appears the planet, which eventually explodes into pieces, among them the image of the girl appears again. Zero tries to snatch her at the wrist in vain and gets left in darkness. This time the girl appears behind him, holding her knees in her arms. Zero calmly asks her, "What do you want to show me?" She replies, "Nothing. You see the same thing as I see. Why? You're the same... as we are."
Outside of the cockpit, the pilot and repairer are shocked to see the candidate has synchronised with their Ingrid completely. Then an emergency alarm rings in the hanger. It's an attack by a Victim.
Eye CatcherErnest and Yuu literally drags Rio away from his dinner table to the battlefield as the repairers are ordered to assume their position. All the Ingrids, except Eeva Leena, are moved out of the hanger for launch. Gareas and Leena are desperate to regain the control of their Ingrid.
In the GOA, advanced candidates are ordered to get on their Pro-ing [a training version of Ingrids]. The call somehow disturbs Hiead, who rarely shows any sign of emotion. Clay calms him down but notices something unusual about Hiead.
Three repairers, Kazuhi, Tune and Phil, are engaged in the final preparation of their Ingrids. Teela also appears in the hangar. The four Ingrids are now ready and she tells the others Eeva Leena will join them a little later. Each of the three repairers sends their pilot into the cockpit in their own way. Rio is the least serious and tells Phil he is rather hungry. She, half appalled, promises that he could have a proper meal after the combat.
In the meantime, Leena and Gareas are more confused to see their Ingrid properly booted up. Zero in the cockpit is struggling against burning pain in his eyes and fingers while the girl stands just behind him with her hands gently on his shoulders, "Don't worry. You and I can become the same thing." Zero moves his arms like a marionette operated by her, who continues to whisper to him; "Now all you have to do is open your eyes." What Zero sees is the inside of the hangar. Now he is able to see the world via the eyes of the Ingrid.
Eeva Leena starts moving for launch and Gareas at last loses his patient. How can Eeva Leena move when he, the pilot, is here!? He jumps and clings on to the cockpit door of the Ingrid.
Despite of gentle words from the girl, Zero cannot keep his cool, either. "I'm not a pilot yet!" Then he remembers the day when he left home for GOA. He declared to his ill mother, "I'll come back here as a pilot!" The girl whispers, "Your dream is within your reach." Zero remembers it is his dream to fight along with the white Ingrid but yet cannot make up his mind. The hands of the girl, which has been on Zero's, move away. Leena observes the synchronisation between the candidate and Ingrid is being rapidly lost.
Now the other Ingrids have passed the first "space-fusion" stage and the pilots get into the cockpit. As the four Goddesses proceeds the preparation sequence, Leena and Gareas are desperately trying to stop Eeva Leena. The synchronisation is still going down and errors in the system are reported. Leena knows the life of the candidate is now in danger. Then Azuma comes to the hangar and tells Leena to do her best to eject the candidate from the cockpit. She succeeds in it and Gareas pulls Zero out of the cockpit.
The four Goddesses are finally launched. Teela tells them they will encounter the Victim in 180 seconds. Eeva Leena joins the team just in time. Leena asks Azuma who the boy is while she takes care of him. He replies the boy is just a candidate with unknown ability.
Zero is in dream again. This time he is lying on the ground under a big tree. A girl of a similar age is looking at him from a little distance.
