Summary of Eps.1

OP

The office of Kagura SS is in ruins after the attack. Eiko is estimating the damage while Yuka is looking for Maicho Newspaper in the telephone directory in vain. Maki has gone out to get a new weapon to match the attackers' 20mm vulcan and Takami is... in her panic mode ^_^;; Unaware of all, Yuu is peacefully fast asleep in the basement.

Taba is finally released by the police who took him to the station for acting suspiciously. He notices that all the people around him in the street are looking confused; all the electric signs and TVs on the roadside are filled with the message "Help me." In a nearby car one of the men who kidnapped Maya applies an electric stungun to her. As soon as she loses her consciousness, the message disappears. Taba walks away, failing to realise that the message is for him.

At a remote hotspring resort, Irie receives a report over the phone, which seems to satisfy him.

Taba has come back to the department store where he lost his talismans. Inside the ruined building, he becomes alarmed when he hears a noise; is there a Cat? It turns to be Narusawa of HOUND. She hints that she has information which will be of interest to Taba.

Maki arrives at Ayagane Marui, a model gun manufacturers. A man meets her and unwisely susggests she has just suffered a broken heart [Not shown in anime but in manga]. However she came here to ask him to let her use their factory.

Taba and Narusawa have gone to a park on a hill looking down at the sea. A romantic spot full of couples. She sits on a bench and asks a nervous Taba to come closer. She tells him that during the operation at the department store, there were at least two men present apart from Kagura, the Cat and HOUND. She also tells him that, during the operation, a firewall was dropped down to hinder HOUND and it was done by physical hacking to the system, which is not how the Cats do things. It is clear now to Taba they are the ones who took the talismans. Narusawa gives away more; the two men were witnessed on the Russian cargoship, Sakhalin which is currently aground. Taba wonders why Narusawa, a member of HOUND, would leak such information to him. She replies "Our mission is tightly restricted to preventing damage by the Cats and sealing them." Taba understands her motivation and leaves with the photographs.

After seeing off Taba, Narusawa asks her boss, who has been hiding nearby, if she did right. Yajima is sure the accident with the Sakhalin is not a normal one and also knows that, while the Ministry of Transport asked the Coast Guard to be mobilised, the Ministry of Welfare intervened to stop them. Five minutes later, the government officially ordered the Coast Guard not to move "because the SDF Navy will assist with the rescue." But, as Narusawa knows, the SDF Navy never made a move... at least officially. That is why Yajima sends Kagura into the case.

Taba comes back to the office in the evening where he sees a few police cars. Yuka and others welcome him outside the building. Yuka explains about the attack and Eiko reads the list of the damaged or lost equipment, ".... computer terminals, TV and a video, and a cat." Maya? Taba asks what has happened to her but all she can say is "kidnapped by a greengrocer." Eiko is sure their aim was Maya and they did use Kagura's talismans. Taba tells her that those who stole the talismans kidnapped Maya. Eiko understands more than he's offered. She knows, from a scent on him, the informer is a woman.

Taba wants to go to the Sakhalin to save Maya but Yuka turns it down. They are in business, not doing volunteer work. Taba is so desperate that he tells them that he'll be the client and the money will be deducted from his salary. Eiko quickly estimates the sum; it will be a 38-month loan provided his salary is cut by 50%. Then two police officers approach them to ask if "this" is one of their members too. Yuu greets them, "Was there anything happening?"

Yuu is parked on a pier. She calls Takami, who is in a family restaurant [Note this is a branch of Akie's from Nukunuku], to tell her the others have gone to the Sakhalin. They, Taba, Eiko and Yuka, are on a small rubber boat powered by Taba. Eiko tells him they could have used their motorboat but that would have meant two months more in his loan.

Maya is in a hold of the Sakhalin. She attempts to "go through" the door but it is protected against Cats. Three men, two soldiers and a civilian-looking man, come in the room. The third man, Descartes [his name is never given in the anime but the insert of the LD says so], tells her they are after a piece of information and, as long as she is cooperative, they won't hurt her. All they want to know is "the route of Nicholai." Maya transforms into her cat form as a show of defiance but the man is not impressed. He throws Maya into a pan full of water.

Taba and the girls have finally reached the Sakhalin. Now it's time for him to climb up the side of the ship. ^_^;

Maya, back in her human form, is recovering from the damage Descartes' treatment inflicted on her. She is, however, still strong enough to ignore Descartes' question. Just then another soldier comes in to report something to Descartes. Maya is quick enough to seize this opportunity and runs out of the room in her cat form. She manages to find a computer room but the computer is also protected. Descartes is contemptuous of her; their protection is perfect. But Maya, who is taken back by two soldiers, somehow shows a secret smile.

Taba, Eiko and Yuka are on board after some struggling. They are surprised to see no one there and Eiko finds bullet marks from the 25mm vulcan, which is different from the 20mm one used in the ambush of Kagura, and thinks this must be the reason for the uncharacteristic absence of the Coast Guard. But Taba is more concerned about Maya's safety and uses his authority as a client upon the girls, which does not please them at all.

Eiko and Taba separately survey the inside of the ship where they find nothing... or no one. Yuka does nothing but cheerfully follow Taba, which annoys Taba immensely. Eiko meets them again and tells them that even the holds are empty. "This is as if..."

Her thoughts get interrupted by the attack of a Cat. But she is calm enough to ask Yuka to add an allowance for dangerous work and increase Taba's loan to 40 months, which is approved without hesitation.

She also calls Takami to send reinforcements, who in turn tells Yuu to go and help them. But poor Yuu doesn't have a clue how she can reach the ship.

During the battle, Taba asks the Cat why they are here, "Isn't Maya on your side?" The Cat doesn't comprehend what he is talking about. Taba is now cornered in a hold. Then comes the helping voice of Yuka... a voice from the hell maybe ^_^;; "Taba-kun, please avoid them deftly!!" She blows the top of the deck above Taba and the Cat to surround them with four containers. Now he can seal it! But his relief is short lived. As soon as he sealed the Cat, he realises that he is surrounded by many of them.

Descartes comes to the control room to check the situation and decides to evacuate the ship. He orders the timer of the bombs to be set so that the ship will blow up in ten minutes.

Taba and Yuka are fighting against the Cats but they are losing. Eiko arrives at the control room and sees the bombs have been set to explode. She decides to crack the system to prevent the explosion and tells Taba to attract the Cats' attention as much as possible.

Taba and Yuka are cornered at the edge of the deck. They have run out of the arrows and talismans. But their lives are saved (at least momentarily) by Maki, who has come on a boat with her new armoury.

The arrival of Maki doesn't please Eiko too much and Taba somehow gets a very bad premonition. They turn out to be right. One of Maki's miscontroled bullets hits the control room destroying Eiko's laptop, which was just about to crack the system.

All the bombs go off, blowing up the ship. Taba, Yuka and Eiko dive into the sea along with the Cats. Maki, unaware of the bombs, is surprised but pleased with the power of her new weapon.

On the coast, Yuu wonders whether Taba and the others are alive as she sees the ship explode. This is enough to send Takami into another fit.

The news of the Sakhalin's explosion reaches Irie at his dinner table. He is not happy and guesses there is someone else pulling the strings on this one. But he isn't too worried either and carries on to enjoy his dinner.

It was Narusawa who reports the explosion to Yajima, who in turn gives orders to intervene as soon as the involvement of Cats is confirmed.

Taba and the two girls are floating in the sea. Yuka asks Eiko roughly how much a cargoship is. "Taba-kun's life-long salary won't be enough."

Maya is now in a different place of confinement. She takes out the can of cat food Taba gave her and holds it to console herself.
