[3337] Mokuren at the Advent Festival

A Kiches has a duty to attend various national ceremonies. Mokuren was one of the most talented among them and played the "soloist" on many occasions. This particular event was held when she was 22 and just after her first meeting with the other tentative members of the Moon Base. In the original manga, Shion was absent from the ceremony, IIRC. The extremely old lady is "the Eldest" of Kicheses, who was in charge of Kicheses. Mokuren was kind of an odd girl among the Kicheses but the lady understood her very well. The young woman with a shaven head in the spectators is Maud, a servant assigned to look after Mokuren ever since she came to the Paradise. Her idea was rather old-fashioned but she was the best friend Mokuren ever had.

[4604] Mokuren as a young girl

Kicheses can live with their parents only up to three. Then they are sent to the Paradise to receive the ideal education as a Kiches. They are naked in the Paradise for the most of time.

[4752] Mokuren and her parents

Kiches is not genetic but both of her parents *were* a Kiches, too. They fell in love in the Paradise and had Mokuren. Because virginity is essential requirement for a Kiches, they lost their Kiche on the forehead and thrown away from the Paradise. As Kicheses are so rare and precious for the nation, they were regarded almost as traitors. Her father, Rojion, had suffered from the same dilemma of being a Kiches as her daughter. Her mother, Marge, saved him by giving up her own Kiche and loving him as an ordinary person. This is parallel to Mokuren's feeling towards Shion. Rojion cried bitterly to see Kiche on his newborn daughter's forehead upon her birth. For him, being a Kiche was almost a curse and so was for Mokuren.

[5316]

The couple tried very hard to keep Mokuren with them, denying authorities. But financial pressure from their relative forced them to send her to the Paradise. Mokuren was infamous there, showing obvious disrespect to Sahjalim. One day, Rojion came to the Paradise to take her back. They ran away with Marge to the north but he died soon afterwards (Male Kicheses have a very short life expectancy). Marge couldn't keep running away without him and decided to send Mokuren back to the Paradise. In the bed with her daughter, the mother told Mokuren Rojion's and her agony of being a Kiches, where was later repeated in Mokuren's own life.

[9567] Mokuren sees KK, the Earth, for the first time

No age is given but she looks like..., say 12. She was impressed with the planet mainly because of its colour, the same colour as that of her father's eye.

[10321] Scenery in the Paradise

Cartie the Big Tree was Rojion's best friend. He also told about the flower field of Tika to Mokuren. She learned everything, joy and sorrow, by means of songs.

[13492] Sev Olue, a circus boy

Mokuren used to secretly visit a place in the Paradise where she can look its outside. Sev saw her and climbed up to at the window to see her. He was the first "ordinary" friend Mokuren met and they became friends. Mokuren often escaped from the Paradise and enjoyed a life as an ordinary girl. One day his father had an accident during exercise and seriously injured. Sev came to the Paradise to ask Mokuren, a Kiches, to save him. But only old and talented Kicheses can heal injured people and even their power is limited. All she could do was attend the funeral. This incident made her understand what her father's words really meant; "A Kiches can do nothing but sing and cry."

[16674] Mokuren receives a message telling the death of the Eldest

She had predicted that Mokuren would "fly" to KK and be reborn there; the day would come when she can become the "atmosphere" of the planet.

[20774] Mokuren and others come to the Moon Base to save Ring

This was the essentially last scene of the manga. After the incident at the Tokyo Tower, Ring remained unconscious in a hospital and his soul was on the base. Then they came to bring him back. I mean, Ring, here. One of the key to understand PSME is that the people on the moon in the past and those on the Earth now is not the same. Shion and Ring are distinct personalities. Ring was influenced by Shion and at one time almost taken over by him. Here Alice (NOT Mokuren) and the others tells him to "really wake up"to be Ring.

[23617] Shusuran asks Enju why she loves Gyokuran

Gyokuran was pretty popular among girls and Shusuran was one of his admirer. Although Shusuran didn't like him at all, she adored Shusuran, or her pure love. Shusuran's singlemindedness also worried her so much she looked after her like an elder sister. This was carried on to the current life; Sakura was concerned a lot about Issei.

[29404] Enju consoling Issei.

Issei was dominated by the memory of Enju and loved Jinpachi in vain. Shusuran consoled and persuade that there should be a life for him as Issei, not Enju. As I noted above, the people on the moon is not identical to those on the Earth. Although the impact of having the memory of previous life let the previous personalities dominate them now, they gradually learn that the past is past. Only Ring didn't until the very end of the story. It was definitely too heavy a task to overcome for a seven-years old boy.

[35958] Having collected all the keywords, Ring tries to activate the self-destruction system of the Moon Base to save the Earthwithout success

Shion lost his sanity in the lone life on the moon and made a hologram projector to see the image of Mokuren. Even though it was a mere moving image, her song kept its original power to grow the plants, which intruded and destroyed the system of the Base in the end. Now Shion realises that Mokuren, through her singing, has already be a guardian of Earth, the plant with a lot of plants.

Ring is so shocked he loses his consciousness, which means he loses his psychic power and begins to fall. Jinpachi jumped off from the tower to save him.

[37525] After the battle at the Tokyo Tower, all the people teleported to a field full of fireflies
