02/10/04 - UPDATE
Here are the projects the guys are currently up to:
Chris formed the band The Dreaming. They will be selling a 4-song EP on their website soon. Very cool songs.
Andy continues to play drums for Prick and produces up-and-coming bands.
Walter has joined the band The Clay People and is a DJ for an xmradio station (sattelite radio).
Mark plays guitars in the band Alien Breed.
Jim or Derrek???
11/24/02
Not much new to report. The Dreaming is currently working on songs... likely for a demo album in order to attract a label. I believe they also hired an additional guitartist, but I don't know who yet. Finally, I was informed by the producer/director of HELL.com (the soundtrack that Andy is working on) that the name of the movie has been changed to "So You've Downloaded A Demon". My guess is because of copyright issues?
08/31/02 - NEW PROJECTS
Sorry folks, it has been a long while since I did some updating. I figured most of you have been checking out the Official SW website (which I also run) for updates. Anyways, for those that don't, here's the latest on projects the guys have been involved with:
Chris: Chris is in a new project called THE DREAMING! He is in it along with Johnny Haro (drums) and Warren Huart (guitar)... both previously from Star 69. SW fans might remember Johnny from when he stepped in for Andy on tour when Andy broke broke his collarbone. Warren and Chris are writing the songs and they may use a few songs that Chris wrote just prior to SW's break-up. Also, Brian Carlstrom is helping with engineering of the album. Brian was engineer on Darkest Days and was Dave Jerden's engineer for over 10 years. They have been using drum loops and keyboard filters, but their sound is slowely evolving and changing thru experimentation. Chris mentioned that the sound is currently closer to old SW than the self titled album. No release date has been set.
Andy: Andy has been working with Zoe Bonham (daughter of Led Zepplin's Jon Bonham) on her latest album. Also, Andy has been working on the soundtrack for HELL.com along with Mark Eliopolus (former SW guitarist). Mark will be doing guitar on some of the tracks. Finally, Andy has been producing some songs for bands, including the band Ultrafix
Walter: Walter is a music director/radio DJ for an Albany, NY radio station. He also has started producing for some new up-and-coming bands.
Jim: Haven't heard much about Jim except that he might be moving back to Chicago.
2/9/02 - SW BREAKS-UP
I am disheartened to say that I have received official word from SW's management that SW has broken up! The band members decided to go their own ways. It is likely that some will work on other projects, but I do not know what projects. SW will be sorely missed by myself and other fans!
SW AND KOCH SPLIT
I have received official word that SW is no longer on the KOCH label. It is unknown whether SW dropped KOCH or vise versa.
12/17/01 - CARPENTERS COVER
Yep, it is true, the song 'Top of the World' found on the Aussie 'Angel' single is a cover of the song by The Carpenters. It is an acoustic version that SW played in a special concert in Australia.
12/13/01 - NEXT ALBUM?
Sources have it that SW has been working on 7 songs for a new album. These songs are a little harder edged... a good combination of Darkest Days and their latest album. Although I would like to see their latest album pushed more, it is good news to know there will be another album!
12/12/01 - DERREK QUITS
Latest rumors have it that Derrek Hawkins (guitar) has decided to move on and has quit SW. This news came from a fan in Australia who talked directly with members of the band (SW is touring in Australia) in a music store he was working at. For the tour SW hired Keith Joyner, from The The and a friend of Andy (who was previosuly a drummer for The The). This has yet to be substantiated, but sounds very legitimate.
12/12/01 - SW DOWN UNDER
SW is currently touring in Australia opening for LIVE.
12/12/01 - AUSSIE ANGEL SINGLE
SW has released the 'Angel' single in Australia. The cool thing is that it contains some extra songs:
1) Angel (radio edit)
2) Top of the World
3) So Far Away (acoustic)
4) Television (acoustic)
Top of the World is a song SW did over in Australia. I heard it was a cover of the Carpenters song, but not sure whether that was a joke or not. Television (acoustic) is a very cool song.
12/12/01 - SW ON SOUNDTRACK
SW contributed a cover of the New Order song 'Bizarre Love Triangle' to the "Not Another Teen Movie" soundtrack. The soundtrack consists of 80's cover songs done by artists such as Marilyn Manson (Tainted Love), Goldfinger (99 Red Balloons), Orgy (Blue Monday), and Saliva (The Metro), among others. The soundtrack is now availiable.
---SEVEN MONTH GAP IN UPDATES---
5/18/01 - ENHANCED PROMO
There is a SW *enhanced* promo out there that contains the songs So Far Away and High along with the video (mpeg) for So Far Away. This promo is in a silver paperboard sleeve with dark purple SW dagger logo. This is not sold commercially (I got mine from the Stabbing Westward Advance Team).
5/17/01 - ACOUSTIC EXTRAS
BestBuy will offer a bonus limited 2 song cd along with SW's new album on May 22nd! It will have acoustic versions of 'So Far Away' and 'Wasted'. I do not know if this will also be offered in the store, but likely so. You can preorder this album (with bonus cd) at BestBuy.com. (thanks to 'whyonyourwaydown' for the info).
5/10/01 - OFFICIAL SW SITE
Well, I received some very cool news! I received a call from KOCH (SW's label) asking if I would take over webmaster duties for the Official Stabbing Westward Site!!!
4/25/01 - NEW ALBUM LYRICS
Click here to see the lyrics, as I heard them, from the new album.
3/28/01 - NEW ALBUM COVER AND SW CONTEST IS OVER
 | I received an email today from the winner (Tabitha) of the SW contest to go and hang with SW at their studio. She is obviously very excited... and I am very jealous! She also passed along a picture they sent her of the new album. Click for a larger view. |
3/22/01 - SW VIDEOS
I have the six SW videos up for viewing as RealVideo files. Click on videos in the menu.
3/3/01 - CARTOON SW
Here is a little thing I found (while checking out the awesome Gravity Kills site) that allows you to make a cartoon pict of yourself... or someone else. You can select different features (body, hair, clothes, etc.), so I made a cartoon version of the band (except Derrek, which I have no idea what he looks like). You can go make your own at www.stor.co.uk. Also check out the goth versions (yep, special goth wardrobes) at www.netgoth.co.uk.
2/16/01 - INFO
Latest info from Andy:
- ALBUM - The US release of the album will have 10 tracks, but import versions will likely have extra tracks.
- NEW GUITARIST - Derrick Hawkins did most of the guitars on the new album and he will tour with SW, but that is the extent of it.
- TOUR - SW's 1st tour will involve smaller venues, so SW likely will not bring along an opening band. Also, they will tour Canada, Europe, and the UK before hitting the US.
2/15/01 - NEW ALBUM MAY 22
Stabbing Westward's 4th album (self titled) is to be released May 22nd. Here is the perported track listing:
1. So Far Away
2. Perfect
3. I Remember
4. Wasted
5. Happy
6. The Only Thing
7. Angel
8. Breathe You In
9. High
10. Television
'So Far Away' will be the first single hitting the radio on April 2nd. Also, the new guitarist is Derrek Hawkins.
2/01/01 - UPDATE
Here is some new info from Andy. SW has added a new guitarist (to replace Mark) for the upcoming tour. I do not know if this is a permanent addition or only for the tour. They hope to begin touring in support of their new album in late April or early May!
Also, a while back there was talk of SW maybe releasing a live cd. Andy said that it is very unlikely that any of their older material (remixes and live performances) will see the light of day since Columbia/Sony owns that material.
1/18/01 - NEW ALBUM/ANDY EMAIL
I emailed Andy and asked about how the new album is going. Here's what he had to say:
"Yes, the new album IS finished and will be mixed by the end of
this week. It should be released sometime in May. As far as
the sound of the new album, well, we've created a unique
sound that combines STABBING WESTWARDs past with our
future. It's time for a change. The new album was recorded entirely "live" in an attempt to reflect the power and strength of our live shows. However, we've been hinting at our new sound since the "WITHER" b-sides. Imagine "DAWN" meets " HOPELESS" meets "DROWNING". Imagine "ON YOUR WAY DOWN" meets
"WHY". We've turned into quite a Rock band. I think everyone
will like it. Andy"
I'd just like to say to those who are concerned about SWs 'new sound'... DON'T BE. The guys are incredible artists, make awesome music, and will not disappoint this time. Maybe SW becoming a true 'rock' group will get them more airplay and the exposure long deserved.
12/20/00 - MESSAGE FROM WALTER
