Mezzo-soprano Stacy (Cohen) Cole's roles have included Dorabella in Così fan tutte, Larina in Eugene Onegin, Mercedes in Carmen, Giovanna in Verdi’s Ernani, Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro the Second Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Zulma in The Italian Girl in Algiers, Nancy in Albert Herring, Theresa II in Virgil Thompson's Four Saints in Three Acts, Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, and Lolette in Puccini’s La Rondine.
Ms. Cole has appeared with Opera San José, the Opera Company of Brooklyn, the National Chorale, the San Francisco Choral Society, the Manhattan Opera Repertory Ensemble, Connecticut Grand Opera & Orchestra, Pacific Opera, West Bay Opera, Bay Shore Lyric Opera, Donald Pippin's Pocket Opera, the Bay Area Summer Opera Theater Institute and the San Francisco Chamber Singers.
Concert appearances featured Ms. Cole as a soloist with the San Francisco Choral Society in Benjamin Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb and Brahm’s Liebeslieder Waltzer. Other concert appearances include Handel's Messiah and Vivaldi's Gloria. In addition to concert and opera, she has performed solo recitals for the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and the Bank of Boston Midday Performance Series. A recent recital included a program of Shostakovich and Kurt Weill for the San Francisco Jewish Community Center.
An advocate of new music, Ms. Cole has worked with and performed works by American composers Paul Chihara, Mark Winges, Kirke Mechem, Jacob Avshalomov, and Morten Lauridsen. Born in New York, Ms. Cohen holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Boston University. She has been greatly influenced by American sopranos Phyllis Curtin and Carol Yahr.
