SOS - Stags Supporters Club

September 1999

You may have seen in the local press or match programme that the result of our recent ballot went overwhelmingly in favour of supporting TEAM Mansfield and purchasing £1000 of shares. This was one of the most important steps SOS has taken and we are delighted we received an 80% response from our members. The exact result was as follows:
Option 1 : SOS Members Club should give its full backing to TEAM Mansfield, including the purchase of 1000 shares - 97%.
Option 2 : SOS Members Club should give its verbal backing to TEAM Mansfield, but not purchase any shares - 2%.
Option 3 : SOS Team Members Club should remain independant and give TEAM Mansfield no backing whatsoever - 1%.
Once again, thankyou for your prompt response. We can now look forward to what we hope will be a long and successful relationship between these two organisations. As has previously been stated, this does not mean the end for SOS, far from it. Since the ultimate goal is to buy out Keith Haslam, then it is imperative that the club remain in a healthy position, both on and off the pitch. To this end SOS can continue to contribute finance in the areas it is most urgent and to the people who need it and appreciate it the most.
One of our most successful ideas in recent times has been the SOS 7up coupon launched last season. This has proved to be a good money-spinner for us as well as providing plenty of winnings to those skilful enough to predict all 7 results. Already this season, jackpots of £160 and £150 have been won. We are looking for more volunteers to help us sell these coupons, so if you feel you have friends or work colleagues who may fancy their chances than call Jayne on 01623 627229. Even if its just a couple of pounds worth give it a go. We will post a coupon to you on Monday nights so you will receive it on Wednesday morning.
Finally, things seem to have taken an upward turn for the Stags in recent weeks. A deserved victory over Forest marked a vast improvement in performance. Although poor finishing and bad luck denied us three points against Carlisle, there was to be no such disappointment against Peterborough. Lee Peacocks hat-trick has again made him one of the divisions leading scorers and Bobby Hassell has added to the new upbeat mood by being named as the Third Divisions player of the month for August. Add all this to the moves that have been made off the pitch to try and secure a more certain future for the club, it seems that it may not be quite such a traumatic season after all. Lets hope it continues.
