Making the Grades

Notes: As it turns out, this series of cartoons drew a little more attention than the dig at the Women's Center. I kept being asked what I was trying to say. But when I answered that I was trying to get people to work together constructively rather than going for media visibility over productivity .... their eyes glazed over and they lost interest. I was being reasonable, and they didn't want any part of it.

As a technical note: this cartoon was done before the advent of personal scanners or easy-to-use layout programs. I had to actually take my cartoon, put it into a manual typewriter, and find a way to make the layout work out right.

The "With Apologies to Dean" note and "It's been done" line are references to a protest organized by a guy from my old dorm. He was protesting a the fraternity's fund raising event—a XXX movie shown on campus. In order to show that the human body was a beautiful thing that should not be objectified or denigrated, he marched up and down the University Union (right in front of the line of people going into the porn show) wearing nothing but a smile.

His efforts, like mine, were mostly ignored and occasionally misunderstood. Here's to you, Dean, wherever you are!
