When a new life comes into this world its spirit (or soul) is not yet shaped, developed, mature. Influences from the world around it, more specifically from parents, family and friends will help to create the image of what the spirit can grow into.
The first impressions of a world both material and untangeable will define the limitations this spirit is ready to accept or reject. To confine the spirit to any given way of deployement is to restrict its freedom to move and therefor its potential to grow. The ultimate goal should be to guide the spirit to an understanding of the conceptions in their most accurate universality; i.e. a filosophical awareness and openmindedness not inherently restricted.
Any system, wither it be mathematical, political or filosophical is set up within certain boundries. These systems leave no room for doubt or interpretation, although with time elapsing, it becomes painfully aparent that to move and/or work within them is to err. What was absolute truth yesterday has been over-run by the findings of today.
A doctrine of faith with its unmoveable boundries and the expectations towards its followers not to doubt, err or even question, can not be the best feeding-ground for an hungry spirit. This hunger will be strongly discouraged by most organized religions. To accept a human itermediary between one's own spirit and the higher awareness we are striving to achieve, is like living life solely for the benefit of others, with their patterns as the highest achievable goal.
Nimbleness of mind does not necessarily mean a willingness to grow on the level of the spirit; intelligence therefor does not have to go hand-in-hand with spiritual growth. The key to that growth not being a high I.Q., real or imaginary, but a willingness to let the spirit wander.
Spirituality deals with the part of us which is non-material, non-tangeable and highly personal; yet there seems to be a lot to be gained by being able to control and rule that part.
Why?
Once control over a certain group of people can be established through projecting certain images and well-defined ideas, the group as a whole becomes manageable and easy to guide, use and abuse.
Comparison here would be censourship of the written word...and we don't accept that, do we?
Free spirits i.e. spirits seeking to expand and grow on a path deviating from the set trails are like simple equations with an unknown quantity. Only the equation is not that simple at all, seeing as the "unknown" quantity could lead the spirit down (or up) a path of awareness far beyond the "safety" of the preset parametres. Organized religion will not stand for such behaviour and retaliatory measure will be taken....fire and brimstone, eternal damnation.
The doctrine of man being created in the image of the ultimate consciousness denies spirit its role as an all-driving force throughout the universe. Not been willing to accept the spirit as the seat of inspiration denies the poet his poem as it denies the one-celled creature its potential ability to grow into life on Earth as we know it to be. Denying spirit its growth and self-developement, is denying science its quest for the boundries of the universe.
Studying the phenomena of the human consciousness for the centuries have taught us nearly everything there is to know about the fysical aspect of the brain, its what, how-s and why-s, but we still are not able to determine the exact potential of the part we call "spirit".
More exploratory work to be done?
Yes,definately,...each within our own spirit!
