| Ah, the cursed role play, I have been considering for a long while what style to offer as just a basic one for newbies to look to when they come in and know nothing about role play, or god mode or something. I know everyone doesn't go with role play so it is for those groups that do indeed wanna sim. Starting off on my boring talk I will list some rules then try to go more so indepth. 1) No godmoding, that is important because basically no one will talk to you if you godmode. Basically godmoding or gming includes when you don't accept damage or post an opponents damage, or your character is basically a god with no way to die. I will go into this more when I go into combat 2) Remember something, this is a game, role play, if your character gets killed or something like that, don't be revengeful irl. I suppose alot of you know Felinx, sadly, she has become me and at times I have indeed let what happens to her effect me, not good, nor does it help your sanity... 3) Free form role play, which is basically what everyone that role plays in SWC does, basically means you act out your character. No dice, no gamemasters, just you interacting with other people and play out who you are. It is not all about fighting, it is about acting out emotions and creating twisted plots. Finally figuring out about your mysterious background to have it revealed! Or.. just sitting at the bar, getting drunk and acting crazy like, either way.(lol, I do both..) 4) In character(or ic) and out of character(otherwise ooc) are common enough terms during role play. If I, as a person wished to speak to all the other people, not there characters, I would use (( )) around my words to show it is ooc. Example, I am a mean black hooded evil dude that never speaks, plotting my revenge on random good guy called.... Bob, played by Sam, I could just speak with (( ))'s around my words, like. ((la la la! Oooh! I am watching the Rocky Horror Picture Show on tv!)) See! My dark evil guy wouldn't say that, I would! Alright, enough of this subject. 5) To show a characters action.. you can use < >'s or **'s or ~'s or anything you want! But it needs to show what the action is, I have seen several people come in and start going kicks at his head ha! you will die! You see, it would be basically he is saying that outloud, so please put something to show your action like <waves over towards Sam> Um, you get the idea, right? 6) Role play in my mind is about being about to write a story, but would a story be very interesting if people just sat around and did nothing, or would it be interesting if it didn't have description? So.. description is good, yes, I tend to go overboard at times with it, writting over a page about sitting on a bartop but.. the more you describe something the better the other people you are role playing with can see it in there minds. 7) Have fun. Have FUN! Eesh, that is what it is all about. If you don't then what is the point of it all? If you get to upset about something that happened to a favorite character, then perhaps you need to take a step back a bit from role play and see what is going on. I have known people to die because they take role play to seriously, they kill themselves, that is not okay with me. Fun. That is it. Combat Role Play Alright, combat role play since fights happen, heck, I am commonly the start of the fight, hehe. I have decided as a favorite style of mine is speed/turn role play with this type of chat, I will go into others but this is what I believe to be a good balance of speed and style. Speed/Turn Based 1) No godmoding of course, you have to respond to the others post. If it is to accept damage or to dodge. 2) In S/T (or speed and turn) you basically can post two attacks before you wait for the other side to respond, automatically the first post going through, but it also allows description to take places which is something that shows the true skill of the fighter. 3) No, No , NO posting the opponents damamge, that is another part of god mode. You can indicate what your attack MIGHT do, but it is the others person that gets to decide how much damamge it deals them. 4) No one word posts. That sorta takes away from the whole, be descriptive thing. Yes, you can be all smart alleyish and type two word posts but that isn't the point. 5) No double posts! You can not post two attacks in one line or post, they MUST be separated. 6) Be logical, if an oppent is across the room you have to move towards them before attacking and such things. And other common stuff like a dagger will not go through heavy armor like Fetts and little things like that, reason is useful, use it! 7) Have fun! That s the key! This is a game which at times can seem more real then life at times but... have fun, be nice... heh, well, don't be nice nice... sorry, masochist side kicking in. Other forms shall be added later, and if you wish to have your own role play style posted or add something to this, mail us here. |
