Mesmerized

Mesmerized I am by those eyes
Dark and piercing, mysterious
So unlike his buoyancy and free-spiritedness
Friendly and kind
There lies something behind
Locked onto his heart, entwined
with his very soul
What is his goal?
Why would a god like him
even give a dog like me the time of day?
Such a single word as “hey!”
from him sounds like music to my ears
But music cannot play forever
and neither will this stare
As he looks away,
and brightens at the sight of another man
I realize my place
And sulk back down in disgrace
