1984 -1986
These are the few years where many of the more important ideas of Muh’s began to surface. One of his first out-of-this-world ideas transpired from both a nightmare and a forgotten-named cartoon that was played in the early eighties. The only thing he can remember about this long-forgotten cartoon, for which he adored for it’s unusual series ending - the baddies actually won! - Was that there were two rivalling robots. A young girl from Earth mysteriously finds herself on this strange world and befriends a race of junk bots, that are fighting a more deadly race of robots with semi-circular heads, that could open up their neck compartments and fire big cannons from inside.
These robots were the inspiration for Muh’s first creation. “The Robermen.”
(See Picture, they almost looked exactly like this in the eighties cartoon, if you have any info on the name of this long-forgotten cartoon please email Muh at dimension_w@yahoo.co.uk. Anything you can divulge will be appreciated, he needs the research.)
The only thing he borrowed from this to make his first original stories/comics was the look of the enemy robots; the rest was taken from the unusual experience he witnessed at night, somewhere around the age of 5, his time at Sybourn Infants, in 1985.
What he experienced at night was what is known as a night terror, something all kids experience at least once. It’s like a terrifying nightmare that seems utterly real. He thought he was awake. He might have been, but it’s too long ago for him to remember now. But what he does remember was sleeping in the bottom bunk, his
brother, Ryan, on the top, and suddenly he awoke to the sound of voice(s). They were evil, threatening; he can’t remember the exact words. He remembers calling to Ryan, his brother, and received no answer, it was strange, he screamed to him, and he didn’t wake! He then tried to get up and run to his parents’ room, but it threatened him not to squeal. He believes his next step was to put his pillow over his head and try and blank it out. He soon fell asleep; from then on he always slept facing the wall. This nightmare led
to a good thing as it transpired into part of the same idea with the latter eighties cartoon. The following morning he told his brother about the experience, and he explained how telling all would make sure the nightmare would never return. The conversation then turned into a brainstorming session of ideas for a comic/story phenomenon. He made up the idea there and then for a story called ‘Daniel Vs the Robermen’.
Basically the intro of the story is a parody of the night terror, An evil being known as ‘Terror: The Black Hole Monster’ appears, wakes up a boy called Daniel and informs him that he is The Master of the Robermen, and that Daniel’s bloodline have been constant enemies of them. He shows him, through the window, a great metallic ball in the sky, called Dinoland, orbiting the Earth, this is a blatant clue as to when he thought up this story, Dinoland was a blatant parody of Unicron in appearance. (So he must have at least come up with the idea for their homeworld after/during the time that Transformers: The Movie had come out on December 12th ) Though he’s sure he had the nightmare and invented the Robermen a year before seeing the movie. Anyway, the story was that Dinoland was the Roberman homeworld and they intended
to stay and cause havoc on Earth until they got the ‘black box’, a prized item handed down the generations of Daniel’s family, the black box being the only thing capable of stopping them. Terror warns Daniel that this time he shall fail and disappears into a hole in the wall. (Hence the name black hole monster)
The rest of the story is basically that when dawn approaches another
weird incident occurs, something falls out of the sky and crashes near to the house. Daniel investigates and comes across an alien scientist who informs him that his people have been helpers to Daniel’s family for generations. They team up, and the scientist creates a base beneath his house and two little AI computers, a parody of Roadie and Wheels from “Pole Position.” Daniel soon finds the black box and finds a message from his Great Grandfather inside telling him about his families past. Daniel goes on to foil numerous plans by the Robermen, banishes Terror and that’s about it.
