The Astro-Mythical Capricorn

Capricornus, the Sea Goat

This heavenly constellation of the zodiac forms a pattern of a crooked triangle in the night sky. It can be seen in the Northern Hemisphere in July, August, September and October and in the Southern Hemisphere in January, February, March and April according to SkyMap an astronomical atlas.

The myths associated with Capricorn are uncertain though there is a great reference to the Greek god Pan and was known as the Great All.  His mother ran from him in fright for he was incredibly ugly at birth with horns, beard, tail and goat legs but whose success in seducing nymphs was notable.  Pan haunted the woods and pastures and personified the untamed nature of the spirit wild. But he could also be friendly to men by helping them in the hunt along with guarding the flocks and herds. Apollo the sun-god received both the gift of music and prophecy from the goatish, ugly, untamed nature god. It is said the goat-footed Pan plunged into the Nile River in a panic at the approach of the monster Typhon.

An ancient Babylonian God was Ea, known as the "Antelope of the Subterranean Ocean". This fish-tailed goat was also called Kusarikku, the fish ram. The oriental legends make Capricorn the nurse of the sun-god that birthed the story of the infant Jupiter and Amalthea. Throughout time Capricorn has been called Neptune's Offspring,  the Ocean Storm and the Rain Bringing One and is often characterized as a horned goat or Ibex.

The Platonists held that the souls of men ascended to Heaven through it's stars called the Gate of the Gods. There road of descent was through the constellations which, subsequently,  the Orientals called this constellation Southern Gate of the Sun which corresponds nicely. Capricorn, Taurus and Virgo are often called the Earthly Trigon. Capricornus' history can be traced to around 187 B.C. on a Syrian Seal containing a goat with a fish tail, however, the constellation is said to be much older.

Angels of Capricorn

Ariel means "Earth's great Lord" and "Shining Earth". Ariel is one of  my favorite of the angels because He means business in all endeavors. He has charge over the various natural phenomenon and will use His power to correct and right the wrongs of the world and her people. Ariel has a no-nonsense, straightforward, shoot from the hip and hit anything attitude. He is also considered to oversee the work of the nature spirits, guard visions and dreams and in legends thought to have given the gift of prophecy to man, which relates to the historical significance of Pan.

Gabriel comes from the Sumerian root of  gabri- (governor) and -el (shining), the Governor of Light also known as the Man of God.  Gabriel is the guardian of Earth energy and her inhabitants and holds an olive branch of peace. He protects those who honor the earth and strive for world peace. He is also a messenger that is regarded throughout time and often considered a divine warrior encompassing love . This is another very direct angelic being that dispenses justice by correcting rights and wrongs, but always with love. Gabriel has associations with the silvery moon which relates to visions, dreams, feelings and emotions.

These angels of Capricorn can help you be strong and level-headed when you think you have nothing else to work with and they help give you the dedication you need when you get discouraged.

This information found here is from my own research and countless notes.  I am currently working on the astrological and astronomical history of the constellations which is a large project that I started some time ago. It is a slow and steady process with time being a large factor. Please do not transfer or copy this information and/or graphics. Thanks!
