Family

            The son of a wealthy businessman and a battered mother, the sibling of a dead brother, the husband to a dead wife and the father of two dead children – family life has never been something that worked well for Campbell.

            Growing up, the abuse that his father lashed out to his mother on a daily was pretty much ignored by the authorities in his small hometown of Shining, Massachusetts thanks to the massive amounts of funding that his family provided for the local government. Finally, when it all became too much for him to handle, he signed up for Starfleet and never looked back. It was a move that was preceded by his older brother, Shayne, just four years earlier.

            Time went by, both officers climbing through the ranks and both becoming married and with children. It all came to an end to the massive gathering and destruction of Starfleet forces at Wolf 359 as the U.S.S. Cheyenne-A was the second ship to be destroyed, with Shayne, serving as the first-officer, and his family aboard. 

            Three years later, Campbell chose to take leave of Starfleet after being informed of the death of his wife and two daughters in a shuttle accident on Earth. He was instead offered counseling, which he accepted before eventually returning to duty.

Interests/Talents

            Though tormented with the loss of his daughters, wife and Shayne and his family, Campbell still finds himself knitting close bonds with his fellow fighter pilots, though not with other officers or crewmen. He is an avid chess player, both three and two-dimensional versions, and tries various strategic games when the opportunity arrives.

            Dedicated to staying in shape, Campbell spends much of his free time working out and practicing various levels of martial arts and workouts. He is an accomplished hand-to-hand fighter in all forms of Marine Combat Training and is proficient in the use of all hand-held phaser types and type-II and III disruptors.

            Though not fully fluent, Campbell has a working knowledge of Vulcan, Romulan and Klingon languages.

            His passion is the collection of rare war medals and citation pins. He has quite the collection, which varies from Earth, Klingon, Romulan and some Andorian, Bajoran and Bolian medals. There are multiple other races represented via their honors and medals in his collection.

Education

            Having spent K-12 grades at John Glenn School in Shining, Massachusetts, Campbell was far from prepared for the advanced teaching methods and the intense pace that Starfleet Academy had to offer when he arrived at the age of 17. Making no attempt at extra-curricular activities, Campbell focused 100-percent of his time and energy to his studies before eventually rising to the top at his senior year and graduating third in his class at the age of 23 (as a second-year senior with a dual major). His time outside of the classroom was spend in Marine Corps fighter training, as he learned the various tactics and weaponry employed by the fighter pilots. Soon, his focus shifted to that of the Marines, and his request for a transfer was granted, though is commission was retained and he continued to advance through the Academy while attending training under the guidance of Master Drill Instructor N’Franu S’Harras, an Andorian.

            His major courses of study were high-speed flight maneuvers and capital vessel subsystems. He also took secondary studies in anthropology as well as strategic warfare and fighter repairs.

Career

U.S.S. Illusions (Excelsior Class refit – NCC-41899) – (2365) – Cadet (Cadet Cruise) –  Campbell was quick to find that his time out of the Academy was going to be a tough one. Simple enough, he had fully expected his cruise to be one of flying fighters. Instead, he was given the chore of cleaning the six fighters aboard the Illusions.

U.S.S. Illusions (Excelsior Class refit – NCC-41899) – (2365-2368) – Secondary Patrol Pilot -- Second Lieutenant/First Lieutenant –  A quick learner and well respected by his peers and his superiors, Campbell was requested to stay with the Illusions at the end of his cruise, which he agreed to do. Upon the death of one of the wing’s pilots in a maneuver accident, Campbell got the nod and took over the position in the cockpit. Soon, a promotion came, and he was awarded the Delta shift patrol lead.

U.S.S. Julius Caesar (New Orleans Class – NCC-80566) – (2368-2372) – Patrol Pilot  – First Lieutenant – The eventual retirement of the Illusions led to Campbell getting a transfer to the New Orleans class vessel, the USS Caesar. Carrying a 10 fighter payload, consisting of two wings, Campbell sort of felt his abilities and leadership capabilities were lost in the shuffle of pilots.  He received no promotion and no recognition in four years, and chose to take a transfer when the opportunity arose.

U.S.S. Steamrunner (Steamrunner Class prototype – NX-52129) – (2372-2374) – Chief of Patrol – First Lieutenant/Captain – The nod into the advanced design team fighter squads helped Campbell get the recognition he needed to advance. The Pharaoh-class fighter, a proto-type at the time, was entrusted into the Steamrunner’s fighter wing’s hands as they tested it and worked out all the bugs in the systems. Given the position of Chief of Patrol right out of the gates, Campbell was required to report directly to Admiral Maxim Kelley with updates and suggestions. The work he put forth into the Pharoah-class fighter project led to his eventual promotion to captain. 

U.S.S. Intrepid (Intrepid Class prototype – NX-74600) – (2374-2376) – Chief of Patrol – Captain – When the Steamrunner pulled into drydock for her first major refit, Campbell took an assignment with the USS Intrepid for it’s second time out on assignment. His role as Chief of Patrol found him once again working with a prototype. This time out, and a rather interesting one, he was responsible for the reports on the still-classified Bird-Of-Prey-Class fighter. During his time on the Intrepid, the ship was stranded on a “space sandbar”, a dead-area in space that didn’t allow any movement via impulse or warp travel. The deadspace also halted all forms of subspace communications. A message buoy was launched, but nothing seemed to come of it.   For four months, the ship drifted until the crew suggested using the anti-matter to create small explosions behind the Intrepid to push it through the dead-area. The captain refused, noting that the waste of the anti-matter would eventually lead to them running on strictly batteries. A mutiny ensued, and Campbell sided with the captain, barricading themselves, along with 11 other crewmembers, inside the mess hall. Things looked bleak, until the Federation tow barge USS Hercules came to their rescue, using its  thruster capability in the dead area of space.

U.S.S. Sovereign (Sovereign Class prototype – NX-75000) – (2376-2379) – Deputy Wing Commander – Captain – After the Intrepid incident, Campbell and the “Bird of Prey” wing was transferred to the U.S.S. Sovereign on its second trip into space. The Sovereign found itself in a bit of a conflict, taking on two Jem Hedar battle ships and a wing of Jem Hedar fighters in Campbell’s first year on the vessel. The death of the Wing Commander in the ensuing fight found Campbell being field promoted to the deputy commander position. His actions in the following fight, which found six more fighters go down, led to the destruction of the Jem Hedar fighters, while the Sovereign managed to best one of the battleships before the other fled with damages. The following years were mainly spent working on cockpit designs, improved atmospheric capabilities and ejection protocols on standard fighters for Campbell and the remainder of the wing as well as the replacements who came aboard.

U.S.S. Spartan (Nova Class – NCC-200302) – (Current) – Wing Commander -- Major –  A promotion and nod to Wing Commander gave Campbell the opportunity to lead his own crew – and on a totally new vessel. The Spartan, the first ship designed for complete policing of the Federation territories, was assigned five fighters with Campbell getting some of the best men and women in Starfleet to fly beneath him. His main role, as with that of the other fighters, is pursuit and capture of small vessels trying to escape the Spartan, as well as escort and tactical support.

Biography

For Campbell, it’s hard to say where he would be if it weren’t for Starfleet. It was a place for him to escape the tortures that his mother was forced to endure, though he heard from her two years after he graduated to inform him that she has left his father and moved to south France. It was also a place for him to fall in love with as he married his wife, Jill, his junior year at the Academy, and it was also a place where he felt joy at the birth of his two daughters. The dark side of Starfleet found him away from his loved ones when his brother died and his wife and daughters as well.

There is no doubt that he will always be loyal to Starfleet and to those he serves under. In the end, he has found that there is little else to live for other than to do his duty and to do it to the best of his abilities.

A tough officer, Campbell isn’t afraid to come down on those who have stepped out of line, but at the same time is an ear for crew to address their concerns to as well as a compassionate man that can see the other side of the coin. He is often found alone, working on fighter specs or tinkering with his engines. Though very friendly once people get to know him, he’s a tough character to break the ice with.

Psych Evaluation

            A solid officer with unerring loyalty to his ship and to Starfleet, Campbell has climbed through the ranks at a speed that mirrors his record. A clean service record and the proven ability to be a valuable officer, it’s just seemingly a matter of time before another stripe is added to his sleeve and he takes command of his own Fighter Squadron on a starbase or carrier. Though housing a slight temper that comes out only when pushed to the limits, Campbell has proven to be able to control his emotions and act in the best interest of his ship, Starfleet and the Federation even when faced with intense situations.
