(Background)

Master's-level thesis on "High-energy Interphase Physics
Manifold Interface Computation Theory and Potential
Applications" Physical Discipline (Sports) Honors. T'kaal
philosophy student of the Veshin school, ranked 'Huntress'.

Ky'rIn was born on Vulcan, where her father Lo'tom served as an
Imperial Klingon ambassador. Ky'rIn was raised primarily by her
mother, L'shar, who early on saw
that Ky'rIn's Klingon hormonal systems recommended against
mainstream Vulcan schooling. L'shar, whose own T'kaal studies
had prepared her to associate with and
understand Klingons, arranged for the family to live among the
Veshak T'kaal monks. Ky'rIn was an early and gifted student, and
in the isolation of the Veshak valley,
devoted herself to her studies.

At the Age of Maturity (17), Ky'rIn tested for and was accepted
to the prestigious Vulcan Academy of Sciences, where, after a
first year of poor performance, she rose
to and remained within the top 2% of her class, participating in
the Physics Honors program, and being twice selected for the VAS
team in the Sector Sciences
Olympiad.

After completing her studies at the VAS, Ky'rIn refused an
offered appointment to StarFleet Academy. Ky'rIn desired instead
to claim Right of Inheritance for
admission to IKN Fleet Officer Training School. L'shar accepted
her daughter's decision, but was unsure of the young woman's
readiness to participate fully in Klingon
society. Discussing her reasoning with her husband's family, she
set her daughter a challenge. Ky'rIn would have her mother's
support, and that of her father's family,
only after she had made her own way to Q'onos. Ky'rIn accepted.

L'shar further limited her daughter, requiring that she refrain
from means tied to her academic pursuits as well. Ky'rIn would
have to make her way as a warrior, not a
scholastic. And she did. Wherever a martial contest was being
held, Ky'rIn went, subsisting, and sometimes traveling, on her
prizes. Naive and bookish at first, she soon
saw the wisdom in her mother's plan, and sought to broaden her
general skills.

Ky'rIn was soon following the informal circuit of combat arts
competitions, establishing a reputation based as much on her
exotic beauty as her skill. Competing in
Cluster-level single-elimination kumite, she qualified to enter
the Sub-Quadrant Championship Contests, held that year in the
Imperial system of Vor.

With no other nearby competitions for months to follow, and
having just barely managed to afford travel costs and entrance
fees, Ky'rIn desperately needed to place in
the top three, to afford the final leg of her journey. But the
competitors at that level of competion, and within Klingon
space, were fearsome opponents. Ky'rIn's powerful
mixed heritage, weapons skills, and T'kaal mental disciplines
were not enough, and together could only keep her in the arena
longer, increasing the damage she took. In
the end, she placed 5th.

Beaten, bruised, and nearly broke, Ky'rIn saw no alternative,
and sold most of her weapons, making just enough for a low berth
on a freighter to Q'onos.

Standing at her House's gate, she looked up into the crest of
her family, and felt very small. She had not thought, a year
before, that she would arrive penniless, pitiful and
in pain. Triumphant, she had meant to be. She steeled herself,
and struck the gate with her staff.

The gate flew open, a man on each huge door standing beside it,
clearly having been ready before she knocked. An alarm drum
sounded, and warriors poured from doors
and niches into the courtyard. Sore and stiff, she readied her
staff, part of her mind finding the weight of her shurka,
beneath her cloak.

A warrior rushed up to her, and she nearly struck at him before
she saw he was passing her a bat'leth. She took the blade from
the grinning warrior, almost by reflex,
and sought out the cause of the alarm. Across the courtyard, she
saw her mother's slight smile, and beyond the Vulcan woman,
children running toward the yard, each
carrying one of the trophies Ky'rIn had sent home. Home to
Vulcan, not Q'onos.

She looked down at the bat'leth, and saw it was hers, the one
she had sold the day before. The warriors arranged themselves
around the edges of the courtyard, and the
children set the trophies together, on display at the far end.

"You...", she stammered, then asked more clearly, "You're
celebrating_me_? But I _lost_."

Her grandfather's laugh drew her gaze to him. The old warrior
strode forth, and put one great arm around the young woman.
"LOST!", he laughed. "The child says she
LOST!" The warriors and children all laughed with the old man.

"Grandfather, I don't understand. I came here on a freighter...
You had to buy back my sword..."

"But you are here, child. You fought your way across half a
quadrant of space to get here. You have earned the right to call
yourself a Klingon. I am proud of you."
Raising his voice to shake the walls, he called out, "Warriors!
I give you Ky'rIn! Ky'rIn, daughter of L'shar! Ky'rIn, OF HOUSE
WO'DAN!"

So, from the age of 22 Ky'rIn had started her chosen life with
her Klingon Kin. So, after a crash course in Klingon ways by her
family, and due to the debts owed her
Grandfather from his service on the High Council she was
accepted to the Academy's Officer Candidate School (OCS) where
she completed it with ease. Even with the
added distraction of her being picked on by her fellow students
as being unworthy to wear a Klingon Warrior Uniform. She proved
them wrong when she challenged, as
proof of her honor, the best Warrior in her class and won
narrowly. Though her strangeness would plague her thoughout her
carreer!

In 2376, Ky'rIn was ra'wI of a Sciences team sent to investigate
an anomalous biosphere of interest to the Dominion enemy.  A
massive enemy assault on the planetoid
failed, leaving only Ky'rIn and one HomeGuard officer alive.
(See library database, 'Parn and the Seven Hundred')  The glory
of this event resulted in Ky'rIn's promotion
to la', and her assignment to ra'wI of Sciences for the Eyes of
Kahless Fleet.  This put her in position to pursue her research
into transphasic weaponry, and also to
provide certain assistance to the investigation being at that
time conducted by Cradock Black, concerning the shuttle
explosion that had killed Cradock's father and
Ky'rIn's own father, Lo'Tom.  At about this same time, Ky'rIn
broke from House Wo'Dan and founded House Lo'Tom, apparently to
insulate WoDan HoH from any
scandal. Following Cradock Black's successful but fatal attack
on a Council Member in 2378, Ky'rIn's ties to the human's
actions were investigated, but could not be
proved.  Ky'rIn was reassigned to XO of IKV Kahless' Blade.
Lo'Tom HoH and Wo'Dan HoH are now allied.

(Personality)

Ky'rIn has a dualistic personality, focusing coldly on single
issues as a Vulcan might be expected to, while living her life
freely as is a Klingon's right.  Mindful of her
unusual level of advancement (for a Colonial), and the
precariousness of her position, Ky'rIn does not waver.  She has
never allowed herself to stray from the path of
Honor, and never counted the cost.  That it might cost her in
the future is unimportant; that it has lead her here is evidence
of the honor of those around her; This makes
her proud to call herself Klingon.
