Part 2: Starting Out

Ok, if you've done your homework, you know the hotkeys, units strengths and weaknesses, and general knowledge of the civs. If you wanna be able to win games, you gotta have good allies. The only way to know this is if you've played with them before. Usually, play a 2on2. These are fairly simple in that you have one friend and two foes. Normally, you take on one guy, and your bud takes on another. You really need to watch out for guys who build in your backyard. The only way to defend against this is good scouting. I know I was beating one guy badly and I saw one little sliver of land that was fogged over. About 2 seconds later, a lot of his stuff just rolled out. I killed him, but he almost got me, since I like my military in his town, not mine.

Anyways, when you start out, hit h shift+c. This will give you 4 villagers. Then double click a villager, making sure to select at least 2, and hit b, e, shift, click one, click two. This will give you two houses. Get your scout, crtl+1, then shift+right click, right click, and so on around your TC. You want to explore in little rings around your base. Keep exploring with the scout until you find at least 2 boar and all the sheep you think is by you. When the villies are done with the house, put them on the sheep and the 4 that pop out. Once the four guys are done creating, research loom. After that, create as many villies as you can. Set a gather point on wood and make a lumber camp with the first woodcutter. If your going for a big fish boat boom, set every villager to wood and make a dock, then create fishing boats, lots of them. When the villagers are done with the sheep, put one or two on berries, then take one guy, attack a boar shooting him twice, then running back to the TC or mill. This will cause him to chase you, and have the rest of your shepards attack the boar. Do this to both of them.

When your about to feudal, put 2 guys on gold, 1 on stone. You should hit the button around 12-14 min. While fuedaling, build a barracks somewhere, by a shallows or close to you. Don't be stupid and build one by the enemy. What if he gets some baddies and sends them your way? If you do this right, you will have about 500-700 food stockpiled and just need buildings and some gold. When your feudal, make sure you have 300 wood. This is for blacksmith and market. When you feudal, make the two with a lot of your woodcutters. When you have 800 food and 200 gold, castle. This is around 15-17 min. Then, make other military buildings and get some armor stuff. Be sure to get man at arms. If your going for economy, get double bit axe, horse collar, and some other things like that.

When your score is really high, go to part 3.
