This painting started with a photo-shoot with the beautiful and
exotic model, Azziza who is also a belly dancer. She has a variety
of really cool costumes and I loved this one with the wings. I will
use 4 or 5 of these photos for reference for the painting.

Step
1
OK, back to the drawing board...I make an initial drawing from
the photo reference. I work on tracing paper, here because I will
transfer the design to illustration board to paint on.

Step
2
I usually don't put too much detail into my initial pencil drawings,
preferring to do much of the actual rendering in the painting stage.
|
Step
3
To transfer the pencil design to the illustration board, I rub
graphite on the back of the tracing and trace back over that to
the board. I am going to paint this one with acrylics, so there's
no big need for clean, detailed pencils.

Step
4
After transferring the rather loose pencils, I touch them up a bit.

Step
5
My color scheme for this painting will be a dark background of
mostly cool colors and lighter values for the wings and figure,
with warmer colors on the figure itself. I start painting in the
background colors, first.
