DAMAGE CONTROL SHOP

The Damage Control Shop, aka Workcenter ER01 (translates to Engineering department/Repair division/workcenter 1).
The DC Shop, better known as the "USS SAVANNAH FIRE DEPARTMENT HEADQUARTERS" was the center of all fire prevention, fire suppression and damage control operations.
Responsiblilty included 5 Repair Lockers; 2 Foam generating stations; 2 Chemical, Radiological, Biological-Defense (CBR-D) decontamination stations; 6 installed Halon 1301 fire protection systems, installed in machinery and fuel pumping rooms; the Counter Measure Washdown System; 4 installed Range Guard kitchen fire protection systems; numerous cargo and magazine sprinkler systems; and of course Damage Control Central.

As part of a Damage Controlmans life onboard SAVANNAH, he was to assist in teaching Damage Control to all of the ship's company; stand Sounding & Security or Damage Control Central watch; maintain all firefighting, damage control and CBR-D equipment; qualify and certify in all sections of firefighting and damage control; run routine fire and general quarter drills, both inport and out to sea; conduct daily fire and safety inspections; and of course respond to all emergencies.
