Island in the Embalse Cerrón Grande , a dammed lake on the Rio Lempa. You can hire small launches, like the one in the photo, to explore the weedy waters and fish for small fry. In a small cave on the island lives Maria, right , and her father who everyone says looks just the like the Pope. He was out when we visited. Maria raises chumpipes - turkeys - and goats and seems quite content with her isolated island life.

How many times have I been in some small Latina American pueblo , all soapy in the shower, when the water runs out!
So it gave me great pleasure to see the water being turned on for a change at a small well head, left , which pumps clean water to a La Herradura ('Horseshoe'), a coastal community SE of San Salvador. One of theose benefiting will be Yiseña, right , who sells fried small fish.
