Back to the future

Editorial

Still telling it as it is!

Site Re-launch (Phase One)

In the one and a half years that I have been writing this weekly column for my web site the Editorial of the week has undergone many changes.

Starting out as a one subject occasional column (which can be found in the commentary section) and evolving into a weekly news based column in which I commented on the news and entertainment events that had happened in the previous week.

As of late the column has became a little on the boring side as I began to realize that I had covered many of the subjects in varying forms before.

Writers block has also been a real hindrance in the past eight weeks and the lack of responses to job application took me to a new low in which I felt that I no longer wanted to write a weekly column let alone work on a web site.

The Personal Touch

The one thing that I had began to do was to comment on subjects that effected me and that I felt strongly about rather than news stories. My most blatantly pre-break 'Steven' editorial column was Editorial 76 in which I just went on a bit of a 'trip' and covered subject that only I would find of interest.

I'm not saying that this won't happen again, as I like having this format to discuss subjects that I find of interest. What's the point in having a web-site where you can't indulge in writing what you want be it news or not.

Writers Block?

I never really had writers block as such, but for the first time since I began writing this column I really had no energy to want to begin to think about writing let alone writing.

For the past few weeks I had just lost all interest in writing. This was unusual as I have not felt this way since Early 1997. I had no energy, I was full of ideas yet I never had the strength to fully write them down or even look at a keyboard other than to alter my index pages.

I find it amazing how the same people can inspire you can also bring you down and I had for a brief period of eight weeks no inspiration to try and do anything, but luckily that's over and I am now running at 80% of what I was prior to the week in which my world collapsed.

Back to the Future

Now that I have cleaned up my act and I have back that creative urge that has been flowing through me for as long as I can remember I am now ready to re-claim my voice and put this site back to the way that it was and try and fill in the editorial gaps.

This site was always intended as my online portfolio, but now it is more than just that it is also my own little soapbox where I can and will air my opinions, be they good or bad.

As to what the future holds, I just hope that there is someone out there who likes what I have to say and my style or writing and is willing to give an untapped talent a break. For until that day comes I'll keep writing and when that day comes I'll still keep writing as there is nothing more satisfying than having a platform such as this to air my opinions and views.
