5. NGAHURU WAIORA
My first Wwoofing place and a good one. Situated on regenerated cattle run off 10Km from the village of Kohu Kohu. Consisting of a main large community house for cooking and socialising and small dwellings for sleeping around the grounds. Only adults and 2 children. Showing in maturity in the standard of organisation. E.g. Each day cooking and cleaning is 6he responsibility of one person and everyone eats lunch and dinner together. E.g. The garden is pretty tidy. They all do some part-time work outside the community. There are compost toilets and drinking water is the rainwater collected from the roof.
After meals we talked and played cards. Once we did playback theatre and another time we went down to the local backpackers to play volleyball . We all went down the village hall to see a local talent show. There seemed to be a good feeling of community in the area ;everyone took part in the show from the 7 year old kid who'd just learnt a tune on the violin, a maori great grandmother on the uekele and the old rockers belting out doors tunes.
Work-cleaning the pond, weeding, planting, cooking, cleaning , composting etc
.
