11. Christchurch

Hitched south down the east coast. Kaikoura home of whale watching and "swim with the dolphins ", but I'm not into that. Tried to hitch the 3 hours to Christchurch, but had to take the bus

So many Japanese faces, not a bad city but flat, new, american, moved to the quainter harbour area (nice backpackers) Climbed up the ridge which separates it from the city

imagine : view down from the windy ridge across the flat city

I wwoofed at the joint communities of Chippenham and Mansfield. It started 35 years ago as a commune in a city mansion, and grew to encompass the house next door a bakery, printing business and Cricklewood farm. Then it contracted to amost empty properties and now it's rebuilding itself to about 10 adults. The present Minister for the Environment is an ex-resident.

I did a lot of clearing and helped with the website http://www.oocities.org/riversidemusicfestival.
