Wednesday arrive
Thursday/ Friday/ - weeding rice
I didn't take a camera so you will have to imagine this, we had to put on waders and go out into the flooded rice paddy. Grass weeds were growing up between the rows and among the rice seedlings. In Angsung they use snails to control the weeds so there are hardly any weeds to pull out, but here there were lots. I was the monsoon season so we couldn't stop when it rained. We had to spend a long time standing in one spot pulling out the weeds, it was really boring. The farmer could work 5 times as fast as me. He showed me how to do it. If you pull at the weeds the roots get left in the mud, he raked the mud with his hand and brought up handfuls of mud. Except when I raked the mud I brought up handfuls of mud. I didn't quite get the hang of it. Also standing up Icouldn't see the weeds and my arm are too short to reach easily, so I decided to crawl like weeding on the ground. They all thought this was very funny but I found it practical when there were lots of weeds. Of course I came out all muddy and they hadn't told me to bring a change of clothes.

Saturday, Sunday, Monday, were had to clean the weeds and dirt from the bottom of the greenhouses, trouble is they have overhanging pipes and I kept banging my head quite badly

Monday -Gurye women's festival - I stand alone next to the wall as they do all the warm up and everything then everyone stands up. National anthem time I think as I cannot understand what's going on. Then everyone in the whole stadium turns to face me. So I presume that they are looking at something behind me. I turn around, but I can't figure out what the hell they are looking at ? I sneak a look to the left everyone is still looking toward me, I sneak a look to the right everyone is still looking toward me... But some are looking up. That's when I realise that I am standing underneath a huge Korean flag. I quickly look up to face it, but I've been standing with my back towards it for a least a minute. Well I suppose I hate nationalism anyway for us Europeans it brings back memories of national superiority and the atrocities it led the Germans to in the second world war. I surprised the koreans don't realize it was nationalism and national pride that led the old Japanese state in it's bad deeds.

Tuesday - Mr Choi fixed a Suncheon city tour for me. I went on to Yeosu and around also sightseeing train back

As always the in Korea the hospitality was great from Mr Choi his wife and mother and father. The WWOOFers stay in the house as the Choi family live in Suncheon city 20Km away. More photos on their website http://www.jirisanbioland.com/
