This is my newest and favorite. My '81 Toyota SR5 pick up. One owner, 62,000 miles. The factory two-tone paint is mostly what makes this truck special and fairly rare. In later years Toyota relied on ugly, free form sticker stripes instead of bold color schemes like this. Toyota should look back on this period for future styling inspiration. I plan to enjoy as well as preserve this classic mini-truck for many years.
The World's greatest beater car! I paid $350 for this '84 Honda Accord a few years back. Don't let the shiny paint fool you. This one is a serious rust-bucket...why yes, there are holes in the floor. The odometer is nearing 219,000 miles these days, everyday may be its last day!
About the checkerboard hubcaps. While working as a contractor I wasn't always guaranteed work everyday. You may be thinking what does this have to do with a set of funky hubcaps! Well, on one of my "days off" this winter I was bored and had some yellow reflective adhesive that was too cool to just let sit around. So I started cutting and sticking and here is what I ended up with. The pattern was inspired by another Honda I had. It was a '79 Civic with very worn paint on its roof. I didn't want to repaint the car as that would've required me to do some necessary, and major, body work as it was somewhat rusty.  I set forth with golden rod yellow and semi-flat black Krylon and much masking tape to create a checkered roof. Not unlike the Volkswagen on the Kraftwerk album
Autobahn. The one twist though was the optical distortion created by small blocks of color in the center of the roof with gradual changes of dimension leading to large blocks at each of the corners. It turned out pretty groovy looking while maintaining some dignity.
Oh yeah, the drivers side wheelcovers remain original silver as I only had enough to do two wheels. I figure it this way. The car has a far-out side and a sober side. A double life?
