I started slot racing as a kid back in the 60's when lack of funds generally would not allow me to have more than one car running at a time. I would cannabalize everything to get one car on the track. Even though I had Strombecker sets years before, the commercial raceways seemed like "real" slot racing! I never actually entered any of the weekly races because financially I could not be competitive. The "older" racers could afford the faster motors, build the trick chassis, and buy the better tires. I was content with running Cox RTR kits or building an occasional piano wire chassis that was pretty crude by today's standards.

Now, at age 52, the slot racing bug has returned! Thanks to the internet and the multitude of great slot racing sites out there, ideas and parts are plentiful. I first started tinkering with HO cars using the Slide Guides from Ed Bianchi (I do not like magnet cars) as well as building some 1/32 and 1/24 cars for use on a home track. Being a woodworker at heart, I built a few experimental wood tracks to test my cars on. Then I set out to build my "permanent" wood track that would fit my space limitations and also be able to run all of the scales of cars. One is never enough, plus I got the urge to build an oval for NASCARs and modifieds. Since space was limited, my only alternative was to stack them.

So far I am having a blast building, testing, and racing my cars. The tracks are relatively small, but a lot of fun. Although I have a little more money now to put into the hobby, as you can see on my site I am still trying to race on a budget. I try to repurpose a lot of things I find into slot car parts as well as building my own parts. After all, being creative is half the fun of the hobby! I find a lot of useful bodies for conversion at Big Lots, the Dollar Tree, and even Target.

Recently I have found a great group of guys, both male and female, in the area who have the same slot car obsession as I do. I have learned a lot from them. Hopefully , we can get a club going to promote more interest and draw more people for fun racing.
