ST. JAMES, La – The St. James Wildcats erased bad memories of last year’s Riverside game by scoring a shutout victory over the Rebels 35-0 in the district opener before a home crowd in St. James.

Wildcat Luther Ambrose returned from being out a week, and he certainly made his presence obvious as the speedy junior accounted for 3 touchdowns.

The “2006 Legion of Doom” Wildcat defense caused havoc the entire night as they racked up their third shutout in six games, and they prevented Riverside from ever crossing the 50-yard line throughout the game.

Luther Ambrose was anxious to score after missing last week, and he did just that only a few minutes into the game.  Ambrose took in a 17-yard run for the score and Jaurelle Narcisse – who went 5 for 5 on extra points – connected with the extra point to give the Wildcats a 7-0 lead.

A big punt return to the 2-yard line by Ambrose set up the next Wildcat score.  Jaurelle Narcisse powered it in from there and then kicked the extra point to put the Wildcats ahead 14-0 with 15 seconds left in the first quarter.

The next Wildcat score was “spectacular” to say the least.  With only 3 seconds left in the first half and the ball at the Riverside 28-yard line, Wildcat quarterback Antonio Phillips fired a pass into a crowd of players in the end zone.   The ball was batted out of Wildcat Craig Duronslet’s hand and heading for the ground when Luther Ambrose spotted it and made the grab literally an inch from the ground for the remarkable touchdown reception.  The Wildcats took a 21-0 lead into halftime.

Ambrose would score one more time as he took a 28-yard run up the middle untouched for the score.  Narcisse’s extra point gave St. James a 28-0 lead with 10:22 left in the third quarter.

With 6:42 left in the third quarter, the Wildcats would score one final time for the night.  Phillips fired a pass to Craig Duronslet about 10 yards downfield and Duronslet performed a beautiful cut back into a wide open middle of the field and sprinted to complete a 33-yard touchdown reception.

From that point on, many second-team players took the field and the Wildcat defense held on for the shutout performance.

The Wildcats are now 5-1 and will gear up for a road trip to Lake Charles, Louisiana next Friday to take on Washington Marion.
