LAKE CHARLES, La – The St. James Wildcats took a road trip to Lake Charles, Louisiana to take on the Charging Indians of Washington-Marion.   The Wildcats scored 9 touchdowns in route to defeating the Charging Indians 60-20.

The Wildcats scored quickly after Marcus Dumas blocked a Washington-Marion punt, giving the Wildcats the ball on the 1-yard line.  Kenny Zenon punched it in from there.  Extra point by Juarelle Narcisse was good and St. James took a quick 7-0 lead.

3 costly penalties and a fumble on a punt return resulted in a little “bend” in the Wildcat defense.  The Indians scored on a 5-yard pass across the middle.  The extra point was blocked, thus St. James held on to a 7-6 lead.

From this point on till the younger players came in during the fourth quarter, it was St. James.

Quarterback Antonio Phillips hit Terry Isom on a 14-yard pass play for a score with just six seconds left in the first quarter.

The Wildcat defense started to look like that “2006 Legion of Doom” and came up with a score of there own and Casey Narcisse defelected a pass right into Jared Favorite’s hands for the interception and Favorite took it the house.

St. James scored once more in the first half when Kenny Zenon scored on a 3-yard run.  St. James led 25-6 at halftime.

The Wildcat’s put together a strong third-quarter performance which began on the opening kickoff of the second half.  Terry Isom took the ball at his 5-yard line and sprinted the distance untouched for a 95-yard kickoff return.

Luther Ambrose provided the next Wildcat score when he scored on an 8-yard sweep play.  A bad snap on the extra point led to Narcisse picking up the ball and sprinting for the 2-point conversion to put the Wildcats up 39-6 with 8:07 left in the third quarter.

The Wildcats scored their third touchdown of the third quarter when Antonio Phillips called his own number and scored on a quarterback sneak.  Romell Stieb kicked the extra point to give the ‘Cats a 46-6 lead.

Back-up quarterback Marcus Dumas would hit Craig Duronslet on a short pass and Duronslet slipped through a few tacklers and sprinted to complete a 25-yard score.

Everyone wearing a uniform on the sideline for St. James would play at least one play in this game.

St. James was not finish quite yet.  Eddie Hill would score on an 11-yard run with 6:36 left in the fourth quarter and with the successful extra point, the Wildcats led 60-6.

Give credit to Washington-Marion for staying in there as they would score two late touchdowns, setting them up with some nice passing.  Final score: St. James wins 60-20.

The Wildcats will return “close” to home next Friday night when they will travel a few miles up-river to resume district play by taking on the Donaldsonville Tigers.

NOTABLES

Superstitious fans who were looking for something “bazaar” to happen on this “Friday-the-thirteenth” may have got a few things they were looking for.  Late in the forth quarter, there was a strange power outage where all but one of the stadium lights went out causing a 20-minute delay.

The strange power outage didn’t top what happened in the second quarter.  Football players weren’t the only “species” to cross the goal line.  A good sized fox ran from the adjacent wooded area onto live play on the field and drew a nice laugh from the fans and players.  The fox sprinted across the entire field, so I guess we can credit it with a “touchdown” of his own.
