DONALDSONVILLE, La – The St. James Wildcat defense caused supreme havoc early in the game and that would set the tempo to lead the Wildcats to a 34-6 victory on the road against the Donaldsonville Tigers.  The win propels St. James to a 7-1 record and a 2-0 record in district play.

Brutal play by the Wildcat “2006 Legion of Doom” defense had Donaldsonville going the opposite way on the first drive of the game.  Ultimately, Donaldsonville was forced to punt and St. James would get outstanding field position to start at the Tiger 32-yard line.

It only took one play to light up the score board.  Wildcat quarterback Antonio Phillips rolled out and found a wide open Luther Ambrose for the 32-yard touchdown pass.  Juarelle Narcisse drilled the extra point and with 9:44 left in the first quarter, St. James led 7-0.

St. James held Donaldsonville to negative 30 yards of offense in the first quarter.  It would be another big play on defense that set up the next Wildcat score.  Defensive tackle Casey Narcisse picked up a fumble and ran it 55-yards down to the 1-yard line.  Juarelle Narcissse punched it in from there and also kicked the extra point to put the Wildcats ahead 14-0 with 6:04 left in the first half.

St. James would get the ball back and score again when Luther Ambrose “zigzagged” his way to a 22-yard scoring run.  Narcisse hit the extra point and with 4:56 left in the first half, St. James led 21-0.

The Wildcats would score one more time before halftime when Juarelle Narcisse scored on a 1-yard run.  With his extra point, St. James took a 28-0 lead into halftime.

St. James put together a solid opening drive to begin the second half and capped it off when Gary Davis scored on a 3-yard run.  The extra point was no good and St. James led 34-0 with 10:57 left in the third quarter.

Give credit to Donaldsonville who hung in there and at least had a few players that didn’t give up.  Still, the Wildcat defense would hold.

Donaldsonville would however score once.  With about 8 seconds left in the game, a Wildcat fumble was scooped up and taken in for the score.  The extra point was no good.  Final score: St. James wins 34-6.

The Wildcats will now gear up for what looks to be a major game when they will host the nationally ranked John Curtis Patriots next Friday night.

NOTABLES

Absolutely great play by this Wildcat defense.  The way they played in the first quarter could only be described as “vicious.”  They immediately took control of the game against a Donaldsonville team that’s having a better than average year.

Hats off to the team discipline.  I could be mistaken, but I only remembered just one penalty called on the Wildcats tonight.  There were also many times where Wildcats players did the right thing and backed off on some heated situations.  Team discipline was high priority coming into this season and it has already shown its effectiveness this season.
