| Chapter Ten "Abs," I managed to say, atonished at the face I was looking at. "Oh, so you remembered my name," he remarked. "What's that supposed to mean?" I asked. "Look, can we talk?" he practically shouted over the music. I nodded. I turned around and tapped Holly. "I'm going to go talk to Abs, I'll be home later," I told her. She nodded and mouthed 'good luck' as she went back to dancing with some strangers. We walked out of the concerts and into the streets of downtown London. I hated how I knew these streets backwards and forwards. We slowed to a stop and faced each other. I crossed my arms in front of me and avoided his eyes. "Whitney," Abs started. "I want to know why all of the sudden I haven't heard from you in three months. I thought we had something really really good going." I finally looked up at him and took a breath. "We did," was all I could manage to say. "Then what was it? Another guy? What? Why did you just not return my calls? I went to the beach house, it was totally empty, I think I deserve to know why you just up and ignored me," he spat. I was taken aback at how aggressive he was being with this. "I can't really talk about it," I said, adverting my eyes once again. "Can't...can't talk about it?" Abs replied, his voice rising. "This isn't fair to either of us, Whitney. Why-" he was cut off by his mobile ringing. He reached into his pocket. "Hello?" he sharply asked. "Yeah, I'm gonna to be kind of late for rehearsal. No. Just, wait, I'll be there in like a half hour." He hung up the phone. "Dance rehersal." "Dance rehearsal?" I repeated. I rummaged my mind. I never knew he was a dancer. Then everything came together like a giant puzzle. "Oh....my....god..." I said, placing a hand over my mouth. "What?" Abs asked, his face softening. I rubbed my eyes and looked at him. "Your...oh my god," I looked down. "Everything has come together. Your a popstar, Abs." He looked at me, not changing. "Yeah," he nodded a bit. "Wow," I said, shifting my weight. "Whitney, I really don't have a lot of time, I want to know what happened," he said, placing a hand on my shoulder. I looked at it. "Why do you care, Abs?" my tone dramatically changed when I realized I was suddenly angry toward him for hiding this from me for so long. He dropped his hand. "Maybe because I actually cared about you a lot and suddenly one day you were gone!" he exclaimed. "I think I deserve to know why otherwise I'll just dismiss all the time I spent with you and all the feelings we had for each other as nothing. Nothing at all. I mean-" "I'm homeless, Abs!" I yelled, stopping him. "Is that what you wanted to hear? We left the beach house because Johnny got busted for drugs. We're back on the streets where we were before." Tears sprung to my eyes as I looked at Abs, he was standing there, totally not expecting what I was telling him. "What do you want the tabloids to say, Abs? "Abs Breen popstar feels sorry for homeless girl?" That's not going to happen to me." I finished, a tear gliding down my face. I wiped it away, both of us speechless. "Whitney, it's..it's not like that," Abs said, reaching for me. I stepped away from him. I just shook my head and turned around and started jogging back. Chapter Eleven... |
