Chapter Eleven

I collapsed against the brick wall, right around the corner where I lived. I held my head in my hands, thinking back on what had just happened. I shook my head in disbelief. How could he hide this from me? How could I not have known? Tears gided down my cheeks but I ignored them. I leaned my head back against the wall. What was I going to do now?
I heard a familiar voice coming around the corner and looked down at the ground. "Whitney," I heard Nikki say. She approached me and I sat there, not looking at her. "Why aren't you at the concert with Holly?" She leaned down next to me, sitting. I looked up at her finally. "Oh, Whitney, what is it?" she asked, scooting closer to me.
"At the concert," I started. "Abs was there." Nikki nodded. "He confronted me why I had just up and left. I told him, Nik."
"What did he say?" she asked when I had finished. I shrugged a bit.
   "He...he's famous," I stuttered.
"What?!" Nikki exclaimed. I nodded. "Wow," she breathed.
"I left before he could say anything," I explained.
"Aw, I'm sorry, Whit," she said, putting her arm around me.

*Two Weeks Later*

I woke up slowly. It was a chilly morning but I knew the weather would soon warm up. I got up and found only Ayanna wandering around. "Hey," I groggily greeted her, sitting up and stretching.
"Oh, hey," she smiled when she saw I was awake. "You know you need to work on your sleeping habits. I've been up for at least 2 hours and everyone else has been up longer than that."
"Yeah, well, sue me," I replied, getting up. "Where did everyone go?"
"I honestly don't know," she said, throwing something in our big blue trashcan. I bent down and picked up Emily's purple brush and ran it through my hair. "Anyways, I have to go, I'll see you later." I nodded as she turned the corner and headed out. I looked around me, alone now. I heard some footsteps and craned my neck toward the corner/alleyway, our only entrance and exit to see who it was. Nikki emerged, walking at a fast pace toward me.
"Whit," she said, coming to me.
   "What's your rush?" I laughed a bit.
   "Weeeelll..." she smiled.
   "What?" I asked her.
"Someone's looking for you," she told me. I looked at her.
"I'm gonna need a little bit more information than that," I responded.
"Abs is here," she finally said.
"Wh-what?!" I asked, not believing my ears. She nodded.
"I don't want to see him," I said, turning away from her.
   "But, Whitney," Nikki said.
"I don't want his pity," I sharply told her.
"Have you ever thought maybe he actually cares about you, Whitney?" Nikki exclaimed. "You're the only one who is pitying you. This is our lifestyle," she softened, motioning around us. "This is how we live. He didn't know that until you told him. He cares for you not because of where you live or what your status is. He loves you." I took a deep breath. "Okay?" she finished. I nodded.
"Thanks," I quitely responded. She gave me a hug.
"Now go get yourself a popstar," she laughed.
