Chapter Ten

Scott and I sat across from each other, both of us leaning against the cave walls. "I want food." I said.
   "I want pizza." Scott replied.
"I want...ice cream." I said, licking my lips.
   "I want a warm bed,"
   "I second that."
   "I want my phone."
   "Scott!"
"Well, I do!" Scott exclaimed. I leaned my head back against the wall and closed my eyes.
   "Scott," I said.
   "Yeah?"
"What do you think would have happened to us if we hadn't found shelter?" I asked.
"I don't want to think about it right now, sis," Scott said.
"Neither do I," I quietly responded. We sat in silence for a while until I drifted off to sleep.

Scott awoke me not too much later. "Whitney, Whitney!" Scott was yelling at me from across the cave.
"Whaaaa? Uhhhnmff." I replied in sleep language.
"Wake up!" he exclaimed. I forced my eyes to open.
"What is so important that you felt you
had to wake me up just when I fell asleep?"
"This is no time to be crabby about me waking you up, Whitney. I think I hear something outside, and I would go check it out, but I kind of can't get up." Scott explained.
"Okay, okay," I said, standing up. I walked to the entrance and peered out. The sun was setting and the sky was a mixture of orange, pink, blue, and a dash of purple here and there. I heard something and stepped out. I strained to hear it again. My heart began to race. Suddenly, a big mass of black, brown, and white hair came bounding up the mountain. I almost cried when it ran up to me and sniffed my hand. I led it into the cave with me.
"What did you find something out there?" Scott anxiously asked.
"Its a search dog!" I exclaimed.
"Which means, like people are looking for us?" Scott asked, petting the dog. I happily nodded as tears came to my eyes. I moved the dog and hugged Scott as tight as I could.
